Can someone tell me why Michelin withdrew from F1?

Do you think F1 has 'lost something' having just one tyre manufacturer?

The FIA and Michelin to see eye to eye so to speak (USA 05).

Half and half, I like the interesting races we have with the soft and hard but then again Bridgestone vs Michelin had its moments.

I'd like to see Pirelli return to F1, they used to produce super sticky tyres that were unstoppable once fully warmed up.

I'm in the tyre business so i take a bit of interest in this subject.

The decision to go to Bridgestone was a political one. Nothing else. I wonder what tyres Max and Bernie have on their own cars.

The idea of a single control tyre would have been a good one had it been a "single control tyre" that was actually used. now wouldn't it be nice if everybody had the same tyre and there was no lottery whether we should run a soft first or a hard later. Everybody running the same throughout the race would have been far better and far more economical.

When a manufacturer produces a one marque control tyre it produces just that. As it is we have control tyres in F1 that don't last half a race, which defeats the whole object of having a control tyre in the first place.

The present situation is shameful.

Michelin's decision was based on the FIA mandating a single control tire requirement. Michelin was in F1 for competition and was not interested in being a single tire provider. It was rather lopsided though as most of the teams were Michelin leaving the rest to use Ferrari spec'ed tires. The result was Ferrari always being first among the Bridgestone runners.

A side effect of this FIA regulation is that several drivers are having to unlearn Michelin wear, operating window, grip & braking characteristics that is adversely affecting their performance. This is a big deal as the drivers in this category include Kimi,Alonso, Button, etc. and may account for their relative lack of speed in the first 1/4 of the WC vs their teamates. Knowing the rubber is big when it comes to a driver's commitment into a corner on the limit!

F1 is worse off without Michelin. They handed Bridgestone their asses last time.

I think tyres had too much influence on the races - I like it now
