A minority think Alonso is slow, and given Lewis is doing so well at matching his ability, could it be that the McLaren is super-fast with mediocre drivers OR McLaren is mediocre with superb drivers. If the former is true, are Alonso and Hamilton worth it, and could McLaren use the likes of someone like Raikkonen to properly secure the title? Although I suspect the latter is true.

And the rest...I had better upload that new word censor list!

Seriously though, it's worth debate but it could well be that Hamilton is a legend, and that all components within McLaren are pulling their weight.

LH can't be a legend - he hasn't accomplished anything yet. Maybe he's a legend in the making, but he's certainly not a legend yet.

A car is only as good as it's driver. If you put someone like Jean Deniz Deletraz in this year's McLaren, he would set lap times about 10 seconds slower than the Spykers, and if you put Hamilton or Alonso in a crap car say... a Life or a Coloni/Eurobrun/Andrea Moda/something else that was pre-qualifying fodder they'd struggle with it just like Damon Hill struggled with big Tom Walkinshaw's so called "Championship challenger" 1997 Arrows.

Whilst Lewis Hamilton has been quite outstanding, and I'm sure will go to much greater heights, Nando Alonso is a proven double world champ.

Watch Nando's pace improve as he gets more used to the team. By his own admittance he still doesn't feel completely at home.

I see Alonso's pace increasing with every Gp. He's still my bet for 07 champ. He also needs to show who's boss, and he knows it.

The Mc Laren is not only totally reliable so far this year, but also extremely fast, and seemingly easy to drive fast, as proved by Hamilton.

Very provocative! To take the bait for the sake of killing a few moments. There can be little doubt that Alonso is a great driver. Alonso is not yet getting 10/10ths out of the car. There is more to come. There should be little doubt that LH is an emerging star and is still learning life in the majors. He will develop further as the season progresses. For the record the f2007 is the super-fast car followed by the MP-22. The MP-22 is hardly mediocre! That Ferrari has not won every race this season so far is due to reliability, poor luck and driver error. (the latter commited by both drivers) Take Malaysia for an example, driver error by both drivers cost Ferrari. We all know Michael would have closed the door on Alonso and that would have been that! I do like that LH did exactly that at Monaco showing that he knows whats what.

I think Raikkonen is probably the fastest driver of the current crop but the difference is small. To underestimate Alonso's skill/talent is pointless. Double world champions do not get there without serious ability and he got there fighting Shuey! But F1 championships are about the 'package' of driver/car/team/luck. You need all of it to work to be successful.

FWIW I rank the drivers as follows: Kimi, Alonso, being very close. Followed by Massa, Heidfeld, Hamilton also very close and will change as Hamilton gathers some experience.

shouldnt be a problem for Alonso to pick up his 3rd WDC

Alonso's been having good days and s*** days. Hamilton's only been unhappy with his results once so far and second at Monaco is not a crap result to be pissed off about.

However, I do agree. Alonso seems most likely although I'd rather see Raikkonen.

Massa will show in Canada that he is for real and score the triple once again. He is the most hungry out of all drivers in the title fight and for that reason he will take it in 2007......

Agree with that.

After the two N.America races Ferrari will pick the driver to challenge for the title, my guess is that its Massa.

There were a couple of occasion Hill managed to get a lot out of the 1997 Arrows, Hungary and also in qualifying at Jerez.
