Just to have some sort of area of discussion, I thought I'd start a poll. Simple yes or no. Given the fact that now Webber is staying at Red Bull for the 2013 season, I think the options for Lewis have been cut in half. What are your thoughts?

I never believed Lewis would be at Redbull, though I wished for it.

McLaren have made too many errors for a top team. Is it worth it, when you have a boss who cares more about everyone being happy go lucky, and holds the stop sign when a driver is not performing up to expectations.

Won't be surprised to see him go to Ferrari though...won't be the first time I'll have to support my favourite driver in a red car.

Can't see where Hamilton would go. No space at Mercedes (i really think Schu will stay on), and Ferrari is ultra unlikely given that Alonso is there.

Lotus? Dunno if Grosjean has a contract (Raikkonen does), or if they'd actually be able to afford his wages. Raikkonen and Hamilton would be a monster team though (should have been McLaren's 2010 lineup!).

Where else? All other teams are really midfielders. In some ways it'd be cool to see a top driver go to Williams and try to drag them back to the front like Schumacher did at Ferrari, but i can't see Hamilton doing something like that at this point.

I think that Hamilton will remain at McLaren but only sign a one year extension to his contract with a view to go elsewhere in 2014. But the question is; will McLaren be happy with a single year contract, the Woking based squad prefers to have long term contracts, minimum term of three years normally!

I think that Hamilton Deserves a better chance becouse he is one of the best and if Mclaren cant suply winning car then we shall see Hamilton in another team if not in 2012 maybe in the next 2 years.

It would be ironic if Lewis does leave McLaren and next year the McLaren is a stormer and Jenson wins the title, we'll see the fur fly! :hehe:

The last time McLaren dominated like that was in 1988, and let's face it, their 'lead driver' needs a domination at that level to win Championships! :P

This is a tough one. I really dont know. Possibly he'll move at the end of 2013 for the 2014 season. I'd always hoped things would come good at Mclaren and Lewis would finnish his career there. But over the last year, he's looked like an afterthought. I think if he had the full support of Mclaren it would be different, but he doesnt. They dont seem to be pulling together, and Lewis has been left high and dry. I think if a decent team really got behind Lewis they'd be a force to be reckoned with. At the moment his best years are being squandered, so .......dont know. I think if he does sign for Mclaren he'd be stupid to do so for more than one year, see how things pan out that year. If things change, great, if not definately time to leave. I think its sad how things have gone at Mclaren.....what could have been!!
So I'll go for stay next year on a one year contract.

4 people voted yes so far, i would be interested to hear their thoughts on where they think he'd go and why....
#312207
I voted no because i think despite what ol' Ron said i think mclaren will pay whatever they need to to keep him.

and i see it pretty much the same as racechick

I voted no. When I created the poll I was anticipating a 2 to 1 split and I'm not surprised. I think the reason to leave is more emotional than rational given the situation, but it's certainly understandable. IMO there is no reason to leave unless a team is capable both from an engineering standpoint and a financial standpoint to put themselves in a situation where they can consistently deliver a winning car.

The only three teams that can currently make that claim are Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull.

I voted yes, maybe more wishfull thinking than a conviction.

However the reality is that Lewis in any other car bar HRT Caterham Marrussia and maybe Force India would beat Jenson in the McLaren

And the McLaren with Jenson as lead driver will be even worse next year

So for me, Lewis is better off taking his chances elsewhere, maybe replacing a certain thug at Williams and taking a year to have a chance of winning a WC would be better than staying with this team as it is.

Coca cola possible sponsors? Maybe Disney could step in then we could see the Mickey Mouse Mclaren F1 team and their cartoon series would become a Disney Mr bean style comedy

Redbull is still a relatively newcomer in that 'big three'. If I were to predict, I'd say Merc would be the next team to join them in that, Ross Brawn is no stupid bloke. He might just find his next MIchael Schumacher in Lewis Hamilton...they could go places alright. Lewis and Nico, headed by Brawn sounds better than Lewis and No Grip, headed by WeAreStillLearning.

I wouldn't mind that, but three years later I don't believe that they've got the development ability of the other teams. Perhaps it's only just a lack of funding as Mercedes doesn't want to go deep pockets with the program? Regardless, I don't think they're fully committed. Hiring a Hamilton though would change things.
