There's also been a rumour LDM would stand for president of Italy in 2013. What's odd is that I've only seen it reported that way in the English-speaking press. The Italians pretty uniformly are treating the statement as something between the usual LDM hyperbole and an inside joke. In today's Gazzetta dello Sport, he denies it emphatically. Not sure if it's the Italian language or the LDM the others don't quite get.

But can you imagine LDM as president of Italy? Can't you just see him threatening Italy would leave the EU if they weren't accorded special status? Like he would take a giant saw and cut Italy free of the continent and have it towed south and moored against Sicily?

I should think Switzerland would approve because then they finally would have some seashore property.
