Will be interesting to see what Costa can do with Brawn, hopefully Mercedes will get some BrawnGP pace in the coming seasons.

The most interesting part of this read is what's written between the lines. It has more than a hint of the odor of Mercedes commitment and it's good to see.

Indeed, that is the most telling aspect.

when you think about it, Mercedes are now the only mass production car make in the sport to own a team.

Ferrari is owned by FIAT but you consider them a super car make, not something you take to the shops to pick up the groceries in.

Maybe we will see something when the new regs come in. The aero rules aren't changing significantly next year and they won't be able to fully influence Mercs 2012 Car. I hope they can step up though a tighter field at the top makes it more fun

Mercedes new appointments slammed

Oct.3 (GMM) Gerhard Berger has criticised the latest high profile appointments by the Mercedes GP team.

With Renault’s former chief Bob Bell already on board, the Brackley based team announced last Friday that Geoff Willis and Aldo Costa will start their new roles in November and December respectively.

Willis was leading HRT’s technical team until very recently, while Italian Costa was ousted by Ferrari earlier this season.

Former F1 winner, joint BMW motor sport director and Toro Rosso co-owner Berger questioned the appointments, which are the latest in a recruitment push by the works Mercedes team.

“It looks to me as though Mercedes are shooting with a shotgun in the hope of landing a hit,” the Austrian told Auto Bild Motorsport.

Autosprint magazine, meanwhile, wondered if it is “credible that, to strengthen his technical staff, Ross Brawn turns to someone considered a loser by Ferrari?

“Frankly, it’s not,” the report concluded.
