In the last 3 races Alonso has finished 1st, then 2nd and in the hungarian GP 3rd, i think Alonso is back on form and confident with the fferari car and is trying to get at least in the top 3 in the championship title race.
There is only 4 points seperating the 2nd to 4th drivers, this includes:

Webber : 149
Hamilton : 146
Alonso : 145

Very close and i think there might be a chance for 1 of these to beat Vettel as they are 85 points behind and that's 3 wins for 1 driver.

So i think Alonso has got a good chance of winning, as vettel has not won in 3 races.

That's mighty optimistic but I like the optimism. It would be great for any of the chasing three to at least make the leader sweat a little...instead of yawning his way to the WDC.

Even though things went pear shaped like the weather in Hungary, I think Lewis and more importantly McLaren are the ones with better momentum going into Spa.

You seem to forget, the gap is the equivalent of 3+ wins ONLY if SV fails to score for 3 races. He usually ends up on the podium and gains more points as well, so that math you're proposing is not the whole story.

Alonso has never been off form this season - it just depends upon whether the car is up to it. With the Bulls untouchable in the early season, third was the highest he could expect. Now with both the Ferraris and McLarens catching up the chance of higher positions is better, that's all. Remains to be seen whether the Bulls' performance will stagnate or whether Newey will find another half second again.

Better than just simply Alonso's form, is the fact that both Mclaren and Ferrari are certainly in the pack to challenge for wins/podiums... therefore allowing for more people to chuck away pts from Vettel.

The only problem has been.... the boy doesnt let those pts get lost easily.

Spa will be anyone's territory as its such a long track... any aspect of the car/tire behaviour can swing the times either way.

Let's see what happens, but yeah, good reasons to be optimistic.

I highly doubt that any of them gives a poo about 2nd or 3rd overall, but they will fight for wins in the process, thus affecting the overall standings. It's almost like a byproduct.

Its not what they WANT, its what they NEED.
Whoever wants a shot at the championship needs somebody... anybody, not allowing Vettel to come in 2nd.

Hmm lessee, he won once, then finished second in the next race, then finished third in the race after that, and you say he's improving?

I think Nando has done a great job. I'm pretty sure he's scored the post points of any driver over the last few races, and given the opposition that's not bad. I'd have to agree with the thread post that he is on form.

I also agree that his form hasn't been bad all year, it's just that it's only recently that Ferrari have given him a competitive car. The Ferrari is clearly better in higher temperatures, so that only makes his performance a little better. As circuits get warmer I expect the Ferrari's to be more competitive.

Ferrari and McLaren have definitely made some improvements since the opening 5 or so rounds, that much is clear. Alonso has been brilliant IMO and is showing his eagerness to pick up podiums. I'm usually not the biggest fan of Alonso, but this season I'm happy when anyone outdoes the Red Bull pairing. So keep it up

What I have to question is why Ferrari insist on having Massa in the team.. Why sign him for another year when he's been quieter than a mouse for the past two years? It just doesn't make sense to me. If they want to challenge for the Constructors title they need a better second driver, it's as simple as that. Fingers crossed they take a gamble on one of the youngsters for the 2013 season - maybe Di Resta, Maldonado, Kubica or Koba. My two cents.

I agree, Massa is old news and potential was met, and now in decline....

Even Sutil would be a more exciting prospect rather than seeing Massa in the seat for yet another year.

Mercedes and McLaren would not let Paul go to Ferrari, I can see Kubica there in a tight fight with Fernando.

Kobayashi could be a good call, as they might be able to negotiate that with Sauber, like say give them discounted engines if they allow Kobayashi to join Ferrari
