Has DRS been a succsess ?

In my opinion it has, in the 9 races been this season a increse of overtakes in races have risen, and i think it makes the race very ecsiting when a car is in the 1 second activation zone.

Let me now what you think of DRS in the comments below, thank you

This is my 1st proper post on this website :D

It has been a success in generating false overtaking but to me I could do without it. The problems in F1 are deeper rooted and DRS only papers over the cracks. It is just a quick fix aimed at attracting viewers who usually fade in and out of F1.

It has made overtaking possible. Not easy (there have been a few exceptions, I admit). But in that light, it has been a success.

I mean, the racing this year has been of incredibly high standard, that says it all really. 8-)

People complained once of a lack of overtaking. It just wasn't possible. Now it is possible. And still some people complain..... deary, deary me...... can you believe it??? Some people are just never satisfied.

I don't think I ever complained. :hehe:

Overtaking is meant to be difficult and it always has been. With F1 we all look back with rose tinted glasses and remember the amazing passes that have been made and then forget that there have always been dull processional races.

During one of the races last year, Antony Davidson on the Radio 5 commentary had the number of passes for the past few seasons. I can't remember how far back his figures went but the amount of passing has been pretty stable year on year.

True, but it's better than no overtaking. I note your later post indicating suggesting that DRS has not noticeably increased the overall number of overtakes but I think the number has increased near the front of the field which is where most interest is focussed.

Also, the 'easy' overtakes may not be all down to DRS. The large difference in grip between used and new Pirelli tyres has probably played a large part in some of the 'easy' overtakes, with the chasing car on fresher tyres able to take the approach corner faster and brake later into the following corner. DRS just amplifies the effect.

I agree with Andrew, it doesn't make for exciting racing in my opinion. It doesn't compare to a real battle and the excitement that it brings.
But in defense it does help(usually) a faster guy behind get ahead of a slower car and move on,which previously would have meant getting stuck behind and race over.

I agree with Bud and Andrew. Yes we have more overtaking and therefore less procesional races. But we are robbed of seeing the real masters at work. Its levelled the playing field and thats a shame.

I think as they atart to get a bit more practise at it I think the FIA will sort it and get it so that the overtaker is sat alongside the overtakee as they enter the braking zone. So far this year they seem to oscilate between being making no difference to making the overtake too easy. It will be sorted with a bit more practice.

Yes. It's all part of a learning curve. We've only had it for half a season!

It probably won't even be there in 2014 anyway.
