Just a little piece, more than likely nothing, but I do recall it being suggested more than once in the past.
It could open up some interesting possibilities at the front of the grid, and if it were to happen, would suggest something that I've been worrying about: Robert Kubica may not return for 2012. If Webber was to go to Renault, it would likely be to replace Heidfeld as Petrov is contracted for next year and performing quite well for a second-year driver. This would of course leave an empty seat at Red Bull, one which Hamilton could take. That, in turn, would leave a seat at McLaren and that is where I think things could get really interesting as there are a number of good drivers out there they could take on. Considering Button would provide them with a solid, fast, experienced driver, they could consider plucking one of the younger drivers, such as Kobayashi, Hulkenberg or the more likely di Resta although he might be a possibility at Mercedes - perhaps, then, Rosberg could move to McLaren?
Of course, this is just silly season talk and as we all know, probably less than likely to happen - Red Bull are producing good cars and Webber knows that a good car and consistency are a very good platform for victory. But in the event that Webber was to make the move, how do you see the driver-lineups at the front-running teams changing?
Mark Webber has been linked with a shocking possible move to Renault.
Red Bull insists it is "very happy" with the Australian driver, but his contract expires this year and Lewis Hamilton has been flirting with a switch from McLaren.
Renault team boss Eric Boullier admits he has spoken with Webber, 34, about moving to Renault, whose undisputed number one driver Robert Kubica is currently recovering from horror injuries sustained in a February rally crash.
"I really like Mark and have known him for a long time," the Frenchman said in Valencia.
"We have discussed it from time to time but we have never pushed him to ask what he wants to do because that decision is up to him."
Webber is managed by Flavio Briatore, Renault's former long-time team boss.
