The former F1 driver drove for Ferrari, Toyota, Lotus, Tyrell, Arrows, Sauber & BAR during his stint from 1994 - 2002. He was racing in the FIA GT1 series last year for Mad-Croc Racing in a Corvette. The 44 year old stood in for Michael Schumacher in 1999 after the Ferrari drivers accident which broke his leg.
Salo is known to be in love with F1 still. He retired in 2002 & loved F1 so much he actually bought a real Toyota F1 car & has it in his living room.
As we know, HRT are struggling for money & the only option seems to be to sell part or the the entire team. Carabante has failed to comment but it is understood an announcement will be made at the Malaysian Grand Prix next weekend where Mika Salo will be the drivers representative for the stewards.
The figure is rumoured to be between 50% & 60% & a name change has been mentioned but not confirmed. Salo is still in touch with his former Toyota team & the deal between Toyota & HRT could be resumed after HRT failed to secure funding to pay Toyota for the technical support.
