A word about Massa before he's completely rubbished and slagged off.

-He's been team mate with Schumacher, and was getting the upper hand .- I watched them race at Turkey when lewis was blitzing GP2, the race betwen Alonso and Schumacher was close and exciting, but it was for second place, Massa was a country mile down the road.
-He's partnered Kimi and was getting the upperhand.
- He nearly beat Lewis for the championship in 2008.
This is not some guy who can't race. Ok so whats gone wrong this year(apart from being partnered with an egotistical, selfish, mardy baby)

*he hasnt coped with the tyres. Nor has Schumacher. (Interestingly Schumacher tutored Massa)
*he couldnt drive round the tyre problem. Nor could Sch...see above
*He hasnt coped psychologically with being shat on

The last point I think is Massa's real weeakness. He has allowed an arrogant, egotistical driver to undermine him and mess with his head ....as Hamilton never did...and nor would schumacher. So yes Massa has a flaw, but its not his driving.

Such bs. His only problem was his tyres which put him in a 2nd driver role.

If he gets on top of his tyre issue everything else will fall into place and he will be able to push Alonso.

It sounds like you gotta bigger issue with Alonso than he does lol

Yes I have an issue with Alonso. That said I disagree that Massa's only problem was the tyres for reasons stated above. The tyre issue is temporary. The damage done to his self esteemn and psyche may be a bigger problem. Ok Ferrari waited till germany to move Massa over but Alonso was requesting it well beforte that. Massa needs nuturing, the way Schumacher did it, the way Smedley does it, he doesnt need threats, bullying and treating like a rookie. If ferrari persist in treating him like that and allowing Alonso to bully him then they are missing a trick and will never get the best from Massa.

I really hope that both drivers start as equals next season, I would love for Massa to get a flying start to the season and see how Ferrari handle the situation with Alonso if Massa is equal(ish) or ahead of the Spaniard? Especially now team orders are back on the agenda, if that happened, Massa has no option but to up sticks and move to another team for 2012, and hopefully screw Ferrari over in the process if they do favour Alonso over Massa if he does manage to keep pace with Alonso (if he is in the right mental place) in the points stakes!

Why would Ferrari disadvantage Massa if he's outperforming Alonso? I doubt they would, anyway Stefano's a shrewd head, Alonso will be briefed and he'll come to rationally understand the situation, might forget it now and then, but again, Stefano's shown solid management with "cooling things down".

We have no idea of what Alonso has in his contract, but given his past record, I would assume that he has a "clear #1 status" clause in his contract, we know how he reacted at McLaren to being matched by a rookie. We don't know exactly what happened between closed McLaren doors but reading between the lines it was obvious he was unhappy with not being #1!

Massa also has to do better against the rest of the drivers, not only Alonso! New tires, new (old) Kers, backwing, driving regs.
Brand new season

If Massa is the de-facto #2 and always has to defer to Alonso, then I can understand his dismay and not wanting to give 100%, after all what true competitor wants to race for second? As I said previously we do not know what Alonso's and/or Massa's contracts says, only the drivers and management knows that. I guess we'll find out soon enough, with team orders now allowed, if we see Massa being asked to allow Alonso to pass in the early stages of the season, I believe that'll be absolute proof that Alonso is #1 at Ferrari!

I don't think there is any more to this that the usual anti-Ferrari jargon being rolled out yet again.

Ferrari didn't ask Felipe to move over in Australia last year. He drove well and was in it for the 1st three races but lost his way after that. In Germany they first pressed him to open the gap on the two drivers catching him. When he couldn't do that, Ferrari protected the win. Felipe's poor form last year started long before Germany. It probably was the tyres. Hopefully LDM's pep talk and public support will do the trick and we will see the pre-accident Felipe on track next year. Personally I hope Felipe has a great year next year.

Ferrari since the Schumacher era have gone with who is in the best position to win the title eg Kimi the defending champion moving over for Felipe in 08 so I would think if the roles were reversed they would ask Alonso to move aside for Massa.

Do you think Lucas words are positive or negative Spanky? I think everyones knows Massa had an off year, does he need to go on the record publicly like he did? I think something like " we will work with Felipe to get ontop of what caused his poor form" would have been better.

I stopped reading the English report and read the original (Italian). He made a symbolic reference (which LDM has used before) regarding Felipe's driving. What he said was that "Felipe's left during the season and it was his brother driving" then he went on to say he wanted the real Felipe back in 2011. Yes, it was saying that he thought Felipe was a better driver than he showed this year, but that he realised it wasn't his fault. You also have to remember that it is exactly the analogy he used to describe Shumi when he was at Ferrari. Understanding that you would see that as a pretty big wrap the Felipe. Basically telling him he thinks he can be at least as good and successful as MS was.

Either way mate, I really really hope Felipe has a stellar year in 2011!

Would be great too see Massa going neck and neck with Alonso all season but I must confess I do not see the killer instinct in Massa like I do in Alonso. Hopefully he will prove me wrong :) .

To be fair hes never had a killer instinct, he just had pace in 2008, enough to rival Hamilton all year. Vettel has shown no signs of a killer instinct and hes champion, if he says its the tyres and hes right, then if they sort that out in 2011 Massa will be fine. And of course if Ferrari give him half a chance to compete, rather then put him down every time they can.
