Many probably dream of getting married away from their misery by some rich tourist...
Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît point.
So can this thread go into 'thoughts to ponder' or pure 'anger/frustration at what a b**ch life is'?
Myself, just back from a 6 day vacation to Pattaya/Bangkok...and the country did change my perspective on life a bit.
I actually stayed in Bangkok for 6 years (this was during my early teens so was strictly on parents' leash at that time and had no chance to explore the darker side of Pattaya.
Highly enjoyable in many ways, and I did visit the gogo bars, Rasputins and Emmanuels (had friends who didn't mind paying for action) and realized how cheaply women are able to sell themselves (and probably their souls) daily.
I don't expect women to remain virgins till they're married of course (it'd be a crappy world) but some things you see in go go bars (classified as entertainment) actually made me ponder rather sadly, on how people might actually feel inside. Do they actually enjoy what they do? Surely none of them have ambitions of ending up in gogo bars when they're young and doing quite absurd things with their bodies to entertain people who actually DO get entertained by their actions (which sadly, are many out there).
I guess when the cash is tight, you have much lesser options. Plus, minus a decent education and an individual could get well and truly lost. So I'm guessing in a matter of perspective, the fact that education is absent to a major group of locals in Thailand leads to what they think is 'ok' as an occupation and don't really realize what they are sacrificing in the end? I can't be sure, as I don't know any of them personally and trying to have a discussion with them is quite impossible of course.
Deep thought rant over. Great trip, highly enlightening in many ways and many lessons learned I guess.
