F1 is in HD in the US, there's nothing like watching the Singapore night race in 1080HP 240HZ.

1) F1 is not HD in the US. They've been shooting it in standard definition. So even if you got an HD Signal, it was an upscaled standard definition picture, which is not HD in any meaningful way - and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
2) You didn't see it in 1080p even Upscaled, because nobody broadcasts in 1080p, it's too bandwidth intensive. 720p and 1080i are the only HD Formats sent over broadcast.
3) 240Hz, huh? Again. Ain't nobody shooting sports coverage in 240Hz. Try 60.

90% of HD programs on shot in standard def and then convert/upscale to HD to save cost, at the end of the day, its HD so don't hate  As for 1080p, I guess my DirecTv HD reciever is wrong because for some reason the 1080p light lights up and the text said "program in 1080p" , As for the 240Hz, got myself a Samsung LED 7series, once again TV is wrong because it said 240Hz. Yes we all know its all upscale and it doesn't matter how they do it, what matters is the final product, HD BABY

It doesn't matter how many Hz your Tv is, if the signal has fewer, the picture isn't 240Hz. Ditto for resolution.

there's a lot of gray area in this debate. myself, i'm not sure who's correct. it probably depends on the viewer tbh.

tv signals might be applied to your tv at 60 hz, but that doesn't mean your tv can react that fast. in this respect a 240 hz television might reflect the fact that you get better definition between frames (reduced blur). i believe there is also technology out there where the tv creates an interpolated frame and sticks it in between 2 actual frames from teh broadcast. this supposedly looks better, but you could probably claim/argue you're always limited by the information received from the broadcast. there's also the fact that your eye supposedly only works at about 60 hz, so it might not be of value to go to 120, 240, etc.

as for the resolution, it's kinda the same deal. i believe upconverting is just a synonym for interpolating, in a way.

in the end it all depends on what looks best to you. :drink:

Vizio: 55inch, LED, LCD, 240hz

My girlfriend has a Sony 47", 120hz.. She got hers before I got mine and I thought hers was a great picture.

We have the same direct TV package. My HD looks better than hers, so I imagine if they are broacasting less than 1080i, there is still something that has to be said for the Hz.. (and the LED backlight for that matter).

Im just stoked that what I thought looked good last year, is gonna look even better.. :D

So what was the deal with the HD... I know that we're not going to get studio quality images, but I didn't really see instances of HD cameras at work, or maybe wasn't getting the HD feed. The speed commentators mentioned HD in passing but didn't say one way or another that it was implemented.

Certainly the on board cameras are not HD, and it was clear that some of the cameras around the track were not HD, but I didn't see anything blow me away, I didn't see anything that I could definitively say was HD quality broadcast.

I'm accustomed to being able to pick out single strands of hair in some close up shot and that type of quality just wasn't there, so I wonder if practice wasn't fed in HD or Melbourne has its own TV contract and it wasn't HD or if I'm just expecting too much.

I'm sad to say that I was underwhelmed so I hope that it just wasn't an HD feed!

Has anyone come across commentary on it yet?

Me too.

I didn't see much difference in practice. Although I was happy to see cars circulating, it looked pretty much the same. As with WB, I know what HD looks like for realz.. and that was not HD.

I will nit pick later once I get a race fix under my belt :hehe:

The HD Feed hasn't been shown here in the UK yet. It's first going to be seen in Qualifying.

The source, of course, was HD for the Practice Sessions, but it was broadcast on BBC Red Button and Online in Standard Definition. Not sure what Speed are doing in the States.

That answers it cause it certainly wasn't HD... that makes me feel better.
