French legal authorities will announce on Wednesday the verdict of the case in which Ferrari is seeking an injunction to prevent the FIA from introducing a budget cap in Formula 1 in 2010.

Representatives from both the Italian squad and the governing body appeared in a Paris court on Tuesday for an hour-long hearing, as the Maranello-based team pushed ahead with its bid to try and force the FIA to backtrack on its decision to introduce the voluntary £40 million cap from next season.

A French court representative said on Tuesday afternoon that its decision will be announced tomorrow at 2pm local time.

The FIA has already stated its intention to appeal the verdict if Ferrari wins the case, meaning the issue could prolong for some time.

sounds to me like there expecting a defeat

Thing is, even if they lose, it will likely push Ferrari past the 29th of May deadline. Ferrari may withdraw action before that point.

I think we will be seeing the last of a number of current F1 teams (Toyota, Red Bull, Renault, Ferrari & possibly BMW too) as they use Max's arrogance as a way out of the expense of being there in a depression.

Whether there is any money around for new teams to come in remains to be seen but given the lack of sponsorship on Ross Brawn's cars the outlook doesn't look wonderful.

Where did this :bs: come from? Sponsors are standing in line to jump on Brawn's cars. Ross is simply choosy and waiting for the price to go up with every new success. Selling the PR rights to Virgin for 30m doesn't sound THAT interesting anymore now that he could sell every square cm. So, maybe he'll still strike a deal with Branson, but it might be at a considerably higher price.

Selling space on the car leading the Constructors Championship with the driver leading the Driver's Championship isn't quite as challenging as getting space for cars in a series without marquee names on an unproven chassis. Recall that Brawn had nothing before Branson look a leap of faith (and the team proved that their practice pace translated to winning) and that Honda had virtually nothing for all of 2008.

i think the thread title to be edited to reflect on the court verdict, or make a new thread...

with the likes of Wirth Research, Lola, USF1, Epsilon Euskadi, RML, Formtech, Campos and iSport coming to F1....IN MY OPINION, it really dilutes the Formula 1 image. i have to agree (IMO) that the "new" F1 should rather be called Formula GP3.

i will look forward to see a breakaway. FIA is heading no where with this.

I'm not surprised at all that the injunction was rejected! Max is too clever by half to get caught out by something like that. I still haven't heard why it's been rejected but I think I read somewhere that it could be related to the fact that the formation of FOTA and Ferrari being there makes the contract void?

Don't worry, sure Ferrari will win SOMETHING this season . . . . wooden spoon maybe?!

Ferrari slams quality of new teams

By Jonathan Noble Wednesday, May 20th 2009, 12:30 GMT

Ferrari has blasted the quality of entries being lined up to join Formula 1 next year - even going so far as saying the sport would perhaps be better off rebranded as 'Formula GP3'.

Shortly prior to finding out that it had lost its legal bid to prevent the FIA introducing a £40 million voluntary budget cap in F1 for next year, Ferrari vented its frustration at the teams hoping to make the step up to motor racing's premier category.

As AUTOSPORT revealed earlier today, the court case that took place in Paris yesterday revealed the list of teams serious about joining F1 was Wirth Research, Lola, USF1, Epsilon Euskadi, RML, Formtech, Campos and iSport.

These teams, and the FIA, claimed that if Ferrari's legal bid was successful and the entry deadline for 2010 was delayed by an injunction, then they would have little chance of getting things in place to be ready to race next year.

Ferrari has said it is shocked at the entries – and does not believe they are the kind of teams that will enhance F1's image.

"They couldn't almost believe their eyes, the men at women working at Ferrari, when they read the papers this morning and found the names of the teams, declaring that they have the intention to race in Formula 1 in the next year," said a statement issued on Ferrari's website.

"Looking at the list, which leaked yesterday from Paris, you can't find a very famous name, one of those one has to spend 400 Euros per person for a place on the grandstand at a GP (plus the expenses for the journey and the stay) [to see]."

The statement added: "Can a world championship with teams like them - with due respect - have the same value as today's Formula 1, where Ferrari, the big car manufacturers and teams, who created the history of this sport, compete? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to call it Formula GP3?"

This thread is dedicated for discussions after the court verdict.

I have to say, a breakaway series might not be far away.

Dare I ask, where is the prestige and image of Formula 1?
