... Dude this is a victory for F1

IF it happens.

But I agree. NYC is the greatest city on Earth, why wouldnt we want one there.....?

It's fine if there is the long-term demand but if there isn't then it is a waste of an F1 race that could go to an established and better circuit, plus it's a street circuit so I doubt the race will be upto much.

But you need to give it more than a couple of years to build up demand. And that will only come with time. And they need to be getting better exposure in these new areas, as they want the money.

Was the British F1 a sell-out for the first few years?

Bit different seeing as the British GP first started in the 50's before the commercialisation of F1.

You passed my trick question well done. Bonus point if you can tell me the winner of the race.

The 1st offical F1 race in 1950 was won by Giuseppe Farina but the very 1st British GP in 1926 was won by Louis Wagner and Robert Sénéchal.

This is what F1 needs if they want to have a presence in the USA. Having a race right on the doorsteps of the Greatest city on the planet is going to get noticed and perhaps even grab some fans. Also having more than one race down in Texas which looks like another great track coming our way will only make things better.

This is not only good for the sport but good for the teams and perhaps will entice other car manufacturers back into the sport as the USA is the largest AUTO market for most if not all of them.

And as for it being a street circuit thats not necessarily a bad thing, there are some street circuits where people and drivers enjoy racing. Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve, Albert Part are both street circuits which are enjoyable to watch. Also the old Adelaide circuit, the teams and drivers used to love racing there not only for the atmosphere but the circuit itself. I often wonder what modern F1 cars would be like passing wise on it, a lot of heavy braking right angle corners and straights make passing easy if you ask me. Fast benders are and sweepers with little braking zones is where passing is made hard.

For all the Hater's I pose this question. How is it better for F1 to go to a circuit like Spa where maybe 40,000 people attend over 3 days and the locals could care less about having a race, then going somewhere where people want F1 to be there and more then 100,000 people would attend? Don't get me wrong I love the classic circuits like Spa but they always operate at a huge loss and people just don't go to them. To me there is way to much snobyness with a lot of F1 fans and they like to say "Well this place isn't as good as this place just because!". I coudn't be more exicted about F1 coming to the east coast and really I could care less if there are 2 races but as long as they grow f1 in the US I would be very pleased with that.

Spa only getting 40k? Is that true or a guess? When I went couple years back seemed a hell of a lot more than that! Also with European races you get folk coming from other European countries to attend. Just a short drive for most, I drove from London.

Formula 1 needs the USA, simple. The market is so important to the manufacturers, and major sponsors in the sport.

Even with 2 races, we know the USA has the money, and motorsport interest to sustain a long term presence. If it fails again, Formula 1 only has itself to blame. Even if the new tracks fall over, there are plenty of great tracks over there can can stage a Grand Prix..

Turkey is gone, Korea is as good as dead too, Bahrain is on borrowed time, and sadly, India will only see 2-3 races held there in my opinion..

BE has been quoted on BBC Sport saying.....

"[Double 1960s world champion] Graham Hill and I tried to do it in Central Park -that's how long ago it was," said Ecclestone.
"It's going to be perfect. We need another two [races], it's a big country.

They tried to "do it" in Central Park?! They'd have been arrested for that. :hehe:

A simulated run of the new NJ street circuit in rFactor, looks like a faster Monaco with all the barriers (if that's what it's really going to be like), pretty scenery but that doesn't make a good race!
