Kimi nearly didn't turn up for the GP this weekend. Top lotus brass had to negotiate him to come.

Still trying to emulate his idol James Hunt I reckon.

Yeah. But it's not really working. In fact, it's now pretty tiresome. Lotus will probably be glad to get rid of him to Ferrari.

I'm sure they will be so much happier with Malodorono or Massa, who will bring money instead of results.

They could have gone for Hulkenberg if they wanted results.

Surely you guys understand more money = better results. Especially because that money improves both cars, not just one.

Ferrari has more money, and they've been trying at better results for six years now so I think your equation is not an absolute.

Maldonado's backing allegedly brings $30m a year. Williams have managed a single point... If that's all the improvement it gets you, I'd much rather have a decent driver. :hehe:

30 million could be a new front wing. Think about it that way.

Of course it isn't absolute (things rarely are), but generally speaking teams with more money do better.

Or salaries for better engineers. How much do you think they pay engineers? 30 *million* would go a long way.

Of course they do, but sacrificing talent for money doesn't always work. Look at McLaren ..... replacing Hamilton with Perez plus Carlos Slim's $$$$$ sure didn't =
better results.

That's the thing, I mean I get what you're saying but it's a matter of scale, 30 million is Ferrari's catering budged for the season... to a team lower down it does mean a good infusion, but so does finishing one spot ahead of your competition in the WCC. Look at Marrusia standing to make 40 for their 12th placed spot and Caterham making no money. In their case, a better driver can make the difference in dragging a car just one spot further up the grid.

The gulf between the haves and the have nots in the sport is HUGE, and to a mid field team 30 may help to keep the doors open but it won't help to catapult a team up the grid like what Hulkenberg is single handedly doing at Sauber.

How different? McLaren replaced talent with money, but the results have not improved. My original point was that replacing Kimi with Maldanado or Massa, and the money they bring, does not ensure success. The McLaren situation is an example of that, and for the record I rate Perez higher than either of those 2, despite his challenges this year. :)
