the McLaren situation.

what situation exactly? Having Button you mean?

I only said a "teensy bit worried". I still think McLaren would be better off with Kimi next year, in terms of performance rather than advertising, especially if their main competition is Ferrari, with a very strong driver line up.

the McLaren situation.

It would seem so. Amanda doesn't like Jenson.

I'm not a huge fan, that's no secret, but I honestly think that Kimi would be a better fit for McLaren and I'm not sure that it's a great move for Button either. Although, if the Brawn (edit: Mercedes now, I guess) seat is gone, then McLaren is without doubt his best chance next year.

Filtering all the PR bollocks out of that gives a couple of interesting quotes:

The partnership between McLaren Mercedes has been in place since 1995 and endedits 15th joint Formula 1 season in 2009. The change to the form of cooperation is taking place by mutual agreement. Mercedes-Benz and McLaren will continue to co-operate with each other and the supply of engines could continue until 2015.

The supply of engines could continue until 2015. COULD. That says it all. I think McLaren will bring in an engine of their own sometime during the period after the engine freeze stops - then any problems can be sorted without a long term impact.

The background to this decision are the new terms and conditions for Formula 1. The “Resource Restrictions” set by FOTA and FIA effectively limit expenditure for the design, construction and running of the racing cars. In addition, there will be a significantly higher income available for a Formula 1 team generated by the commercial rights of the racing series following the signing of the new Concorde Agreement.

“Due to the new Formula 1 environment, we will face the competition in future on the most important motor sports stage with our own Silver Arrow works team.

Now, i thought the expenditure limits were dropped?

Now I'm a newbie, so what does it change that Mercedes bought Brawn? literally, they've used Mercedes engines, so what changed?

I'd be very happy if someone explained me the situation

Nope, they're keeping the current one. Vodafone probably wouldn't approve of an Orange livery.

I agree, It's difficult having two top-tier drivers in a team at the best of times, but JB and Lewis have very different styles. Jenson's going to have the double problem of trying to fit in with a new team which is well integrated with his teammate and driving a car better suited to a different style. But with Mercedes seemingly closing the door on the Brackley option, McLaren is the only viable alternative. This situation gives McLaren all the cards, they get to choose between Jenson & Kimi, neither of whom really have any other options. World Champions are not going to take cheap drives in Manor Grand Prixs or Lotuses.

Edit: All that being said about the Lewis/Jenson pairing, if McLaren can make it work - getting the car right for both of them, making JB feel at home - then they could have one of the most formidable pairings on the grid, one of the best pairings in a long time. Lewis a ruthlessly and relentlessly fast racer and Jenson a wise, methodical driver virtually guaranteed to score and very easy on the cars & tyres. They compliment eachother perfectly.

Well the name-change isn't such a drastical thing imo. But I see they're now pushing for all-german team including Rosberg and Heidfeld

Brawn must of made a bloody shed load from this deal LOL! Wish I was him right now deal of the century he probably deserves it as well! But yeah I was expecting it to happen but not this quickly. Good on McLaren letting Mercedes do this to bad McLaren decided to stick with the Merc engines. But I finally feel a sense of relief that McLaren will not be bought out by Mercedes. So who will be Lewis's team mate next year Kimi or JB I hope it's kimi to be honest. I may be wrong but I think it will work better.

Yep Kimi will be better than Button, i'm kinda hoping he wakes up abit now and thinks i do want to drive and goes for the 5mil offer Mclaren made.

Button is better than Nick so he'll prob go to Brawn for cheaper when he realises its that or the new teams.

Should see alot happen this week with drivers me thinks.

Wonder what the Boss of Honda in thinking right now....

I think that they have already said that they did what they have to do.

I know they are looking at getting rid of a lot more people at the Swindon plant, so things are not looking good still for them

my take

im happy theres another works team in the sport

i dont like the mane mercedes GP [mercedes, or mercedes F1 is better]

its a shame mclaren will still 'look' exactly the same [colours, engine+chasis]

both teams look good for the future as mclaren havent lost anything [or at least much] and mercedes have loads of money!
