when the budget cap comes in who will be laughing last. the people who have Kers that cost a fortune to change the batteries on or, Williams who have the a cheaper option.

I am sure that if we get a few more KERS wins this year there may be a split in FOTA over it. McLaren and Ferrari are not going to give it up easily as they have carried on developing it.

budget capping  took you guys long enough to bring that up! :P But it is a whole other story leading us down what is and isnt F1 by the proposed cap amount. But if Williams were happy to race in F2 then good on them! :wavey:

If the budget cap comes in to effect, I expect Williams would do the best. Their expenditure is already lower than other teams, their workforce smaller and their ability to get the most out of less money has been proven in the past. I think they would do the best job at adapting, in all honesty.

So suddenly, because the type of cost-cutting being discussed doesn't aid your argument, you're going to be like that? You can do better than that, bud.

going to be like what? Budget capping is in the past now.... the amount put forward was pathetic for a sport like F1 if it was a realistic amount then it might have worked.

Technical restriction is also pathetic for F1, yet everyone seems to accept it. Formula One is more like Formulas Two and Three, GP2 etc. than Formula One as it should be...

£80m per year would be fine.

Its a double edged sword, open up restrictions and you open up the wallet.

So fix the amount of money that can go out of the wallet. Simples.

not really as a budget cap would restrict the tech advances, the only problem with that is that if a team goes down the wrong route then it could take them years to catch up.

40mil is chump change in F1 though, a realistic 150mil would have been better.

I agree that £40m is too low, but ideally £100m would be my mark of choice. Then start to encourage low-cost innovative solutions. By all means, keep some restrictions in place (i.e. no winglets, no automated driving systems, must have four wheels) but setting the dimensions of the front and rear wings is definitely going too far. Similarly, things like the mass damper and double-brake system should never have been banned. Engine freezes are silly and go against the spirit of Formula One when it was created. If an engine-maker wants to bring in a turbo engine, let them. Things like KERS and adjustable front wings should be permitted if teams want to use them but they shouldn't pour massive amounts in to developing things that give them a small advantage (which is common sense when it means you have to compromise your car for it). :S

Introduce fuel consumption limits, severe ones at that together with the budget cap - problem solved.
The teams already spent the majority of money on the development of KERS - savings wouldn't be that big if it was scrapped.

IE no fuel stops just tires?

That's negotiable. But the amount of fuel per race should be limited, and that amount should be adjusted downward every year - keeps innovations coming in (most likely with practical applications for road cars as well).

I think that Formula One should move away from petrol eventually, and, until then, fuel limits should be introduced. However, you cannot seriously limit fuel usage without completely changing the engine regulations. It's almost as a bad a gimmick as the green circle around the wall of the tyres.

You can say that again! :vomit:
