There won't be a breakaway series anyways.

thats what the British said when the prospect of the 13 colonies first declared their intentions to form their own nation

Nope, that's wrong too.
There had always been a school of thought which wished for the colonies to be granted independence due to their burden on the British economy at the time. They wanted them to foot the bill for their own defence, and that is how it all started.

Because that is merely a school of thought. Fighting the American was a way of building British Nationhood. The population supported it.

Besides this isn't a history discussion - not about this topic anyways.

EwmanM's assessment is mine as well. The Breakaway would not work, and will not happen.

This is interesting. What were the circumstances by which Ferrari were offered this veto. Previously people discussed Ferrari's financial advantages, which they received when the other teams played political games, and lost. And I have no sympathy for whining teams who played games and lost. But how would Ferrari have a veto since 1998?

If anyone has problems with Ferrari having this veto, then they should complain about the FIA. Any team offered an advantage like a veto, or more money, is going to accept it. I would hope that no-one would be silly enough to think otherwise.

I'm not sure why 1998 is the figure, but certainly when talk of the last breakaway series the VETO was key to Mosley the FIA keeping Ferrari onside.

And what if some of us don't want it to work? As i''ve said I want the sport to remain intact, with reforms following.

it might work, it might not, it depends on a lot of stuff. no one here is in any position to say whether or not a breakaway will work or not, if it were to ever happen at all. it does seem unlikely but not entirely impossible that it will happen

have an open mind FFS

Respect other people's views though.

Whereas you believe a new series would work, I do not.
You are welcome to believe that, but it just isn't what I believe should happen, nor do I feel it would be successful in the long term.

Cost implications, for starters. Time scale, too.

Why do you belive that a breakaway wouldn't work?

Read back,

Denthul has just mentioned two points.

The main argument is security.

the rules and governance would be decided by FOTA not Monte alone in a Max styled coup.

Yes, but Ferrari would still be the one with more say.
This entire mess only started because of Ferrari, it all rests on Ferrari.

no way it started with Ferrari, infact Redbull and Toyota were the first teams to publicly question their commitment to the 2010 season under the current proposed rules.

it was all Max's draconian dealings once again! The man is a dictator with not one bone of compromise in his body!

It didn't start with Ferrari, but what did was the heightened media coverage. The protest only gained credibility when Ferrari joined the ranks.

Oddly, it was Renault's announcement that they were pulling out of 2010 that hit the front page of American news outlets (EPSN.com, CNN.com).

The teams already got the major concession they argued against (2 sets of regs). The straight-forward solution is to embrace the 2-tiered regulations and run like ALMS with F1A and F1B classes. It would grow the sport in terms of technical advancements, talent, depth, and revenue. Clearly there are many challenges to this, primarily stuffing 26, 28, or 30 cars into the paddock area & pit lane, but if each class had their own virtual sandbox to race in with the F1A teams not competing directly against the F1B teams.
