“The Formula One World Championship driver’s title will be awarded to the driver who has scored the highest number of points, taking into consideration all the results obtained during the Events which have actually taken place. “

Thank **** for that.
Honestly, what were they thinking?

They should have a points system that follows powers of 2, from 10 downwards. So, the points would be:

1024
512
256
128
64
32
16
8
4
2
1

That would give drivers motivation to overtake.

ooo Binary.

bit drastic that i think.

can you imagine it, as soon as we got into 1000's of points all the rednecks would start watching F1.

We'd get red necks coming to races, shouting "Shank N' Bake" and getting confused by right turns and chicanes.

would be terrible.
:P

What is this ridiculous obsession with giving everyone a Point? All it does is make them worthless.

Gently descending points going a long way back works to keep the championship tighter for longer.

But they don't need to do that, there are alternative solutions to the problem.

What they could do is, before the race, give each driver an electric shock with the voltage being equal to the number of points they have so far. So drivers down the championship would get a shock of just a few volts, which they probably wouldn't be able to feel. But drivers further up the order, nearer the end of the year, would get a massive shock which may affect their ability to drive. So this would help to stop one driver establishing too much of a lead in the championship, and make sure that excitement lasts the whole season through.

i disagree it would make people from 8 and below race more.

currently in F1 sub par teams like Force India can go without points for a season.

Why would it do that? They're already getting points. As it is now, they have to race more if they want any.

Because someone 16th 10 laps from the end currently has nothing to race for. If points went to 15th place then there would be a point to continue pushing.
