FIA revives 'winner takes all' for 2010
Rule change hidden away in the regulations
04/05/09 15:23
From F1-live.com

The controversial 'winner takes all' scoring system has been rubber stamped for introduction in 2010 by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

The governing body tried to introduce Bernie Ecclestone's favoured system this year, but the late change was vetoed by the Formula One Teams' Association.

We reported in March that the FIA would consult the teams before trying to introduce the system for 2010, but the new sporting regulations for next year already feature the controversial rule.

Article 6 states that the drivers' title 'will be awarded to the driver who has been classified first in the greatest number of races'.

The news has until now slipped the attention of the media because - unlike all other changes to the rules - the amended rule was not highlighted in pink and underlined in copies of the 2010 sporting regulations.

The FIA also confirmed that, accompanying the ban on race refuelling next year, drivers in 'Q3' can refuel under parc ferme conditions prior to the race.

This change ensures the spectacle of low-fuel dashes for pole position, not affected by varying race strategies.

Oh well, hardly a surprise.

F1 is getting more confusing by the minute. There's more action of track and than there is on track now. There was nothing wrong with the old system. Break-away series is sounding better and better as the days go by. Bernie and the FIA are just money grubbing and corrupt. The sports a shadow of its former self.

I can not understand the thinking behind this ruling. Theoretically, a team like Braun who has gotten off to great start could lock the championship around mid season...and then just take the rest of the season off? A team with 17 podiums but no wins (toyota) is beaten by a team with one win and 16 DNF's (Ferarri). A championship by its very nature is the choosing of a team who has done the best throughout the season.....points are a natural way to determine that. This hogwash will not fly....

hopfull this won't happen i expect FOTA will just go NO NO NO NO NO NO

again and they'll back down

Thing is, FOTA saying 'no' won't just be the end of it like it was this time round.

No i hope they bring in the 12 point for win system.

FIA should decide the rules, FOTA should be able to discuss them and if all the teams agree they should overrule the FIA if there's no risk to safty and FOM should just shut up.

FOTA need to stay together until 2012(Is that the date?) then breakaway and kiss goodbye to Max and bernie. Trouble is max is doing his best to break them. His most recent is that if Ferrari dont like the budget cap they can leave, F1 will be fine without them. They also want to expand the grid to bring in more teams who will agree to the cap. Teams not keeping to the cap 'will have their punishment decided by the FIA'!! :yikes: leaving the doors wide open for further corruption or what!!

The teams must stay together! You know what, Im not sure if Brawn will. Hope he does!

Winner takes all makes a mockery of the history of Formula One, and the concept of close racing.

I'm not sure what you mean? By far the most likely rebels are the manufacturers.
