Lewis wants the Macca DRS improving. With that he reckons he can eke ahead it quali.

He better get his crayons out and design a new system then. If he's lucky, Uncle Martin might stick it on the fridge.:rofl::rofl:

Seriously, these things are not that easily changed. It's all linked to the design concept of the rest of the car to a very large extent.

Im sure not. But not a good idea to just not bother eh? And Lewis drives it, he doesnt design it.

Exactly, he drives and doesn't desing it. When drivers come out saying that a component needs improving or redesigned, I always cringe as they are not engineers or aerodynamic experts.

It was just a sound bite, not a demand. A suggestion as to how to eke ahead in quali. If drivers dont give feedback or suggestions theyre not doing their job. Its then up to the engineers to assess the fesability.

So you're stating that driver input is unnecessary, Got it.

No I'm not stating that at all. A driver is not an engineer so all they can do is say how a car feels. When they make suggestions about design improvements I kind of have a chuckle to myself. What they may think is a problem area with thier car (in this case the DRS) may be suffering because of a design flaw in another area. Knock on effects of and all that.

Jeez, quit bitc*in' man....whats your deal? Its like Vettel saying he wants more downforce/better race pace, thats not easily found either and part of the design concept isn't it? :censored:

Just don't like driver soundbite about this sort of thing. They often make the design process sound far too simple. I don't like credit being taken away from the engineering side of things.
#268218
It doesn't take any credit away! They just state what they think from a driver's perspective of what they think will help, how does this take anything away from the engineers?

Just don't like driver soundbites, especially about engineering elements. I would much rather hear a technical explanation. that's all. Ok?

I sincerely apologise for wanting drivers to do their talking on the track and having a keen interest in the technical and engineering aspects of Formula 1.

I always thought driver feedback was an important piece of info for engineers? Guess if Hamilton does it he is just being arrogant yadda yadda

There is a difference between driver feedback and fault diagnosis.

And yet another difference between Fault diagnosis and making a suggestion. Fault diagnosis? Who mentioned faults?
#268234
It's part of the drivers' jobs to feedback on WHAT they feel is going wrong; its the engineers' job to figure HOW to improve it.

They often discuss about it, look at telemetry along with driver feedback; sometimes its just a simple "break earlier into this turn", other times its "we could change the set-up and see how it works"... other times its: "we need to recalibrate the wind tunnel":banghead:

But the engineers rely on both telemetry and driver's feedback.
