Why is this incident being brought up after sixteen years? DD must fancy attacking another of his pet hates, this time Senna. The thread is made all the more laughable, as DD and Gregg are fans of the most arrogant tossers in Formula One history: Schumacher.

It's nice of you all to see Senna's side of the story. He has been lumbered with a woeful Ford engine all season, but has exceeded all expectations to win several times, and drove a brilliant race that day. Then, as the leader, Senna was entitled to right of way. Hill was also arsing about, trying to assist Prost. Irvine's driving could hardly be described as terribly fair as well; there was an occasion when all three drivers could have made contact. Hardly an acceptable situation. Finally, Irvine was/is a smarmy bar steward - something that even comes across in the tone of the transcript - so he almost deserved punched for that alone.

In the photo quiz thread someone posted a picture of Irvine wearing a helmet like Senna's. I got confused because I could remember an incident (i.e. this one) where Senna hit Irvine, that's why it's come up. Plus it's quite a funny read.

Senna was a great driver but his arrogance was sometimes to much to take. He could have been in last place but felt everyone should move over for him because he is Ayrton Senna.

So that's where Hamilton got his "shake fist at a Force India whilst BATTLING FOR POSITION with it" idea from. :hehe:

I've always gotten that vibe as well. He was far to arrogant at times, and I've personally never been able to warm to the guy.

Eddie Irvine "Insurance claim there" :hehe: typical irish humour, brilliant

Honestly, in this case, what was Irvine suppose to do. Ignore the large amount of openings Senna was giving him. They were equally fast, they were racing, that's racing.

Definition of a blue flag
A lapped car must allow the faster car past after seeing a maximum of three blue flags or risk being penalised.

Simple as, Senna wasn't faster.

 guess you dont know the rules about letting the leader through hey Tex?

Thats rich  !

And for a Schumacher fan to criticise a driver for being arrogant just made my day!

Yes I'm a Schumacher fan BUT that had nothing to do with my post. Remember I was watching and appreciating Senna before most of you, who have issue's with my post/opinion , were born or out of diapers. The only reason your crying imo is because Senna drove for McLaren, who can do no wrong  , which again imo is a lame excuse.

its only the Schumacher fans that disagree.. so thats ok, they dont count. :hehe:

Correct.

And this kind of reasoning or lapse of is what makes both of your opinion's laughable and not worthy of anymore interaction from me.

No, its because Senna was simply the best racing driver ever to have graced the sport.

And the Fact he drove for Mclaren is a Bonus.

I see, why are you quoting and replying then?

So Schuy, Fangio, Clark et all don't even get a say. Note, each driver is from a different generation of drivers. No one driver is the greatest driver ever, simply because in many cases you simply can't compare. Is Schuy the greatest from factual point of veiw, you really could argue all day.

The only fact is, that we all have our own opinions on who is the greatest.

Totally agree. To be honest, to an extent I think that drivers from the '50s and '60s are greater purely because of how dangerous it was then and just how little protection they had! I mean, driving in a shirt and a simple hat (Fangio, I believe?) with no seat belt in cars that weren't particularly safe on circuits that had nothing like the safety measures and marshaling of today! Scary!

But ultimately, you can only compare drivers within a decade/major rule change/technological advancement of each other.

no seat belt

I've heard once upon a time, they actually believed it was safer to be ejected from the car during an accident. And I've seen video from around 1910-1930-ish of drivers actually flying from their cars. Complete insanity if you ask me, racing with zero protective gear, at speeds of 100MPH+, expecting to go flying out of your ride if you make contact with anything.

We now return back to your regularly scheduled topic.

What a thread title.

I'd love to comment, but do I dare risk another ideological war breaking out?

Hmmmm What would Lenin do? Oops wrong person to ask...

Fangio, Clark of course are definitely up there but like you say you could argue all day, but Senna for me is the greatest.

Each to their own. :)
