Wouldn't there be a lot more traffic from backmarkers and midfield though? At least with the current system the top 10 are more likely to get a clear run in, which is mainly what everyone wants to see.

1 lap quali was a bit dreary compared to what was before and what came after...

The current system is fine, they just need unlimited tyres for it / quali tyres, so there's no opting to stay in the garage.

 Or just have unlimited tyres for the whole weekend.

Yeah it makes sense to me. There's just too much worrying about amounts of tyres these days, and the really good qualifying FORMAT we have is being seriously compromised... :irked:

The qualifying format is total :bs:. They should go back to the days of a 1 hour session, maximum of 12 laps per driver and they can do what they like with the tyres. It's all too much like a round from the Generation Game these days.

A mixed up grid or the potential of a mixed up grid is a lot better than having virtually the same qualifying order at every race.

If that's our goal, then why have qualifying at all?

Exactly! Qualifying is meant to be run to reward the fastest drivers with highest grid position possible. Anything else is a gimmick

LOL

Spot the obvious fix to help Lewis Hamilton

I still think you could make qualifying quite competitive even with a 10 grid-penalty for the next race for the top 10 finishers of this race. Starting 10th is considering more advantageous than starting 20th.

The solution to making qualifying competitive and allowing no advantage to sitting out Q3 is to give them a set (or 2) of qualifying tyres for Q3 that are ultra quick but only capable of lasting 2 laps maximum.

But then you'd run the risk of drivers trying to avoid placing 10th in races. Is one point between 10th and 11th worh a 10-place penalty for the next race?

I can see it now, "You go ahead"

"No, you go ahead"

"Please, I insist"

"No, no, Felipe, ladies first"

That's exciting racing.

BOLLOCKS to penalties of any kind!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good pace should NOT be punished!!!!!!! :director:

To be honest I can accept and agree with that...but then we cant complain if we get processional races where only one team/one driver wins every race.

The historical perspective has been though that whenever we get one team dominance (the current Red Bull is not really that dominant compared to other years) the sport finds some way to hamper them.

At least processional races have been very much in the minority this season. :)

Thats true...But if you allow excellence to triumph with no restraint there is always that chance. And then everyone moans.

So...if there has to be some attempt to clip the wings of the dominant team then I would rather it was something that facilitated interesting racing.

Autosprint Italia is reporting that Vettel attributes his success at Buddh to a magic line through Corner 15. He claims it gave him three to four tenths per lap.

Must've been a worm hole at that corner none of the other drivers found. Curious that didn't show in the video.

Doubt it a lot, autosprint is new to me but their last so called genuine article turned out to be false. All the teams have access to each others onboard, if it were as simple as the line he took they would have all been doing it.
