But Sutil has proved himself. he also deserves that chance. Not an easy decision for a team manager but Sutil should have stayed.

Obviously not well enough, as Mallya has decided*.

At the end of the day, Sutil is a known quantity. He's proven himself to be a good midfield driver with the odd flash of brilliance (Monaco 2008 before Kimi hit him, for example), but he was overshadowed by Fisichella in 2008 and 2009. Five years and he hasn't really gone anywhere. None of the front-running teams have taken much interest in him, whilst rookies have come in and been snapped up or highlighted as future stars who are likely to move to better teams in that time (Vettel, Pérez, Ricciardo and di Resta are just a few examples). di Resta and Hulkenberg present a rather exciting lineup at Force India and it shows their intention to push forward with some very talented young drivers. They did well to challenge bigger teams towards the end of the season and finish only four points behind Renault. For me, this is a statement that they want to target fifth place at least next season and with these two drivers, as long as they have a good car, they've got a shot.

* I could actually be wrong here and this decision could have more to do with the incident involving Sutil and the Genii Capital guy in that Chinese club...

No he hasn't. He was impressive a couple of seasons ago but he's stayed at the same level and not moved forwards for a couple of seasons now. A new team will hopefully gee him up a bit.

Not watching F1.

Care to answer the question? If he was so deserving of a drive based on his performance 2 seasons ago, why didn't he drive in 2011?

He is/was very light on sponsors and lost his seat to Maldonado who has quite a bit of backing.

Yes he has. both team principals and Mark Hughes have him in their top ten. Id say thats a pretty good endorsement.

Hi
folks
Sorry to butt in but, I have been trying to find out the cheapest way for those of us who cannot afford sky for the coming seasons and had a chat with a sky rep.
He told me the cheapest way to get sky F1 is to purchase sky freesat at £175 fitted one off payment and then pay £10 a month for the HD part and that gets you F1 full coverage. Has anyone else got any better ideas??
Sorry again for butting in but, I am clueless about playing with forums.

Yeah, try quoting my whole comment with my reasoning next time rather than editing it to look like I'm just being and argumentative arse. :nono:

2010 42 points and 2011 47 points. No real progress there after a pretty good start to his F1 career.

Find an on-line feed and listen to the commentary over the radio if Radio 5 is still covering the races.

Maybe a mod or someone with the power could make this a new topic or move it to the 2012 coverage thread here.

I think it's kind of what Denthul has said. It's not that Sutil is not good - he is - but then, Di Resta and Hulkenberg are good as well, and they both have the potential to be better than Sutil is right now. I can understand why did they choose that pairing.

So do you think FI's sponsorship deal with Sahara affected their driver decision? My understanding is that Sutil had a good sponsorship package, and since FI now has more money to work with thanks to Sahara (and thus don't have to rely as much on driver sponsorships), they went with Hulkenberg.

You fequently quote only the relevant parts of someones post. Which way do you want it?

I think Force India are going on driver performance as, as you say, they can afford to do that with Sahara on-board. I don't think Williams are as well off as they once were so Maldonado's money carries a lot of weight with it. PDSVA probably demanded that Maldonado has a seat.

But I don't make someone look like a tit with it by including all the relevant parts and not just one section that can and will be taken out of context and used to create more unnecessary drama.

I'd say that reflects Force India wouldn't you? It's not like they have moved up the field so how can you expect one of their drivers to?

Seriously, you call this reasoning? The best gauge is between teammates and Sutil hasn't done all that bad. If DiResta didn't exist this season, Force India would have lost 5th position in the WCC by only 2 points...that should tell you something about Sutil's contribution this season.
