Let's be serious here; Ferrari need F1 as much as F1 needs Ferrari, a split will be detrimental to both sides, it's a lose/lose situation in my opinion!

That's a sweeping statement! So the newly crowned world driver and constructor champions are irrelevant? Mercedes irrelevant? I bet Ross Brawn and Norbert Haug would have something to say about that, yes Ferrari and McLaren are the longest serving teams but there are notable other names, Williams, Renault, Mercedes and Red Bull!

The rest are pretty irrelevant really, the also rans.

SF & Macca probably have 60-75 % of total F1 fans! So yea the rest dont matter! If there was a breakaway the current f1 would die without the two,and whatever series SF&Macca start would flourish big time

well you say that and when i went to silverstone, i even seen someone wearing a virgin t shirt"! but i do agree most f1 fans are ferrari and mclaren but not all of them

All teams are not equal, if all teams were equal they all have the same equipment and same chance to win races and champions; that is not the case!!!

I admire your ideals but in the real world, would anyone miss Virgin, Lotus, HRT or even Toro Rosso or Force India for that matter if they disappeared over the winter?

Has anyone missed Honda, Toyota or BMW over the past two seasons? Personally I haven't even noticed their absence!

well i think that lotus did good for their for first season!, yes toro rosso probaly wouldnt be massively missed but they are midfield competition for teams like lotus, force india has flashes of up and down form this year, sutil came into his own this year, but i wouldnt miss hrt or virgin

Most 5 year olds could work out that all teams aren't the same in terms of performance and popularity. The old 80/20 rule would probably be about right in terms of teams that would/wouldn't be missed.

That said, a teams popularity has nothing to do with the teams democratic equality. In FOTA each team has one vote - as it should be. LDM/Ferrari made that clear when they gave their support to the majority view of the teams on the new (stupid) engine specs for 2013 - even though they were very opposed to it.
