Would the real Team Lotus please standup!
Team Lotus name is owned by Tony Fernandez (spl)
So to get it straight in my head:-
Lotus Renault - Renault
and
Team Lotus - Renault
Team Lotus name is owned by Tony Fernandez (spl)
Okay, i think i have gotten my head round it a bit. Maybe.
Team Lotus, and the team that raced as Lotus last year, are/were only Lotus by name with no affiliation to Proton at all? (I am aware that Fernandes' team recently purchased the name rights for Team Lotus).
For example, it's like if i came up with this F1 team and called it 'Team McLaren', or something... it's essentially the same but technically it isn't.
I think the more thought i put into this, the more confusing it all becomes.

Tony Fernandez team raced last year, by buying a licence from Group Lotus (The road car manufacturer owned by Proton) to use the name Lotus Racing in 2010.
Tony then bought the name Team Lotus from David Hunt (James Hunts brother)
This is where the argument starts. Proton say they bought the rights and the company Group Lotus. However David Hunt and Tony Fernandez say that when Proton bought Group Lotus they did not buy the Team Lotus.
Colin Chapman had 2 companys Group Lotus that built road cars, and Team Lotus that built race cars.
Now Proton/Group Lotus have bought into Renault F1 and are going to be the title sponsor for them. So they have become Lotus Renault. In the same way that Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team, Vodafone is the title sponsor.
I don't see what Group Lotus' problem is with free advertisement. If anything this bickering is weakening the brand.
My head hurts!! Ok two lotus names. Gold and black cars to die for-my favourite ever cars. But four of them on the grid???, All gold and black and all called lotus. But really they might be renault
