In the old days of catch fencing, it was hit and miss as to whether was going to help you or hurt you.

It was always a tough mess to get out of as well even if you were unhurt.

Didn't a F1 flag marshall get killed by a flying loose wheel a few years ago in Australia. It came through a gap in the fence.

It was plain unlucky because the 38cm wheel went through a 40cm gap in the fence and struck him in the chest.

I did not know that incident included an errant whell harming a person, but there are 2 lost wheel incidents in the past that I understood did(not that they were proven to me, just sort of hearsay). They are:
JJ Lehto at the start of the 94 San Marino GP(yes THAT race)
JV in the last or second last race of 96 IIRC in the williams and I think it just inexplicably left the car while touring.

Was that the same year a Marshall was killed at Monza by a wheel?

EDIT: it was the previous year.
