yep looks right.

I can see another point that might cause issues. team orders.

if you have a driver in 1st and a driver in say 8th and about to get lapped. it is better for your driver not to get lapped, he is going to get 0 points anyway, but because if he is lapped the finishing time will jump to that car in 7th so all the drivers behind the winner will get more points.

It's a good idea, I've always wondered about the issue of just doing places when the times and gaps are also very important and indicative of a drivers performance. it's a pretty good hybrid between the two and will encourage drivers to push rather than just sit in the middle of nowhere. Only thing is, I don't have the best understanding of your scoring so please forgive, will it really help the overtaking situation? Ie is it now more worth it to grab and extra place or will drivers just coast close to each other. I suppose one possibly positive is a driver knows he can get ahead then has the pace and space to push and open up a big gap for more points.

Exactly as you've said, the one in front will want more points and will push, so its unlikely that a driver would simply stay close to someone, and plus their racing insinct will be to pass them.

Nothing I try gets the result I'm looking for. Tried typing it, and the forum just ignores extra spaces, so you end up with lines looking like this:
1 Jenson Button 34:15.8 90 Jenson Button 90 Jenson Button 10
2 Rubens Barrichello +0.8 secs 80 Rubens Barrichello 80 Rubens Barrichello 8

In Excel, this is 3 columns. Putting spaces inbetween the columns still ends up with this result

One major issue. Safety car. If the race finishes behind the safety car it kinda makes a farce of the system. I.e. Australia 2009. If the lead driver builds up a massive lead and then all of a sudden loses it all to a safety car it's kinda pointless.

It works fine if you only have 2 columns of information (Driver name, Points), but I'm trying to put 6 in (Driver, Race Time, Driver, Decaothlon Points, Driver, Original Points), and the result you can see for yourself isn't very good.

Cap-dude. Very true

F1 set to adopt new points system

By Matt Beer Thursday, December 10th 2009, 18:52 GMT

Formula 1 is set for a radical alteration to its points system in 2010 if the World Motor Sport Council approves an F1 Commission proposal to give points to the top 10 finishers in each race.

In today's Commission meeting, chaired by Bernie Ecclestone and attended by FIA president Jean Todt, a new scoring system was put forward which will award 25 points to each race winner, 20 for second place, 15 for third and 10 for fourth, before descending 8-6-5-3-2-1 for fifth through 10th positions.

The change has been proposed to take into account the increased field for 2010, when the addition of the new entrants will take the grid up to 26 cars, its highest figure since 1995.

Assuming it is approved by the WMSC, the change would be the first revision to the points system since the number of scoring drivers per race was increased from six to eight in 2003.

The F1 Commission also agreed that its Sporting Working Group sub-committee should develop "detailed proposals to improve the show" that would take effect next year, and that "the FIA and FOM will further collaborate to enhance the communication and promotion of the championship to the media and its worldwide fanbase."

I believe you can copy the cells and paste it as a picture. Or at least I can on Office 07.

Make it 1 Excel column.

Driver, Race Time
then Driver, Decaothlon Points
then Driver, Original Points

like this:
1 Jenson Button 34:15.8 90
(...)
DSQ Lewis Hamilton +2.9 secs 0

Jenson Button 90
(...)
Lewis Hamilton 0

Jenson Button 10
(...)
Lewis Hamilton 0

not the best to compare results, but it's the easiest solution ;)
