When the green bug takes over again. what are the bets that they say fine decrease the fuel tank size by 20%, then FOTA start to use KERS so they use less fuel

I don't think KERS saves any fuel... It just helps produce more power at different times.

it could be used to save fuel, but it would have to be automated so that the throttle is lowered when the KERS is enaged

I am sure a driver could be taught that as well. after a few DNF's due to running out of fuel.

So would it become smaller tanks and more energy available with KERS. eg 80bhp for 30 seconds

The previous point further adds to the argument that KERS was never really going to take off. There are far too many limitations on it and not enough benefits for the majority of the teams to give it a miss. I mean, if the teams were told they could use KERS for more than six seconds and in place of fuel, there would have been more reasons to develop the technology more quickly and use it in Grands Prix.

The other thing is, because it's deployment was artificially restricted, so too was its development. F1 has little need for what, once everyone had one, would essentially be a whole bunch of completely different parts which might as well have been built by a standard supplier. There's no motivation to develop or improve the technology, because you wouldn't be allowed to use it.

KERS could save fuel by being on all the time..

They say It's Greener for the enviroment, so it must save fuel somehow.
KERS hasn't work at all. The Spainish GP last year saw 2 overtakes. This year it doubled to 4. Catalunya is a hard place to pass but it's like that at all the tracks, may not china this year because it was in the rain.
Overtaking hasn't improved much

Tell you what, qualifying is going to be incredible next season if the entire field remains as close as it has been this year! :yikes:

26 cars on the track at the same time in Q1? Could get interesting.

At tracks like Monaco it will be even more interesting. Even back in the days of when there were more than 26 cars in the Championship there never used to be all 26 - 30 of them out on track at the same time!

On a short track like Monaco, it'll feel like rush hour at New York's Times Square :P:twisted:

you could also say that overtaking was 200% that of last year. so it has worked. I agree not enough but it has

I personally think the fact everybody is now using a DDD has prevented overtaking. In the first two races we had plenty of passing, and then it fizzled out after the interim DDD's started coming in thick and fast.

That only works if you assume post hoc ergo proctor hoc. The fact is, a large number of those overtakes did not involve KERS, or were by cars without it nailing those with it. And if everybody has KERS, because of the way its use is restricted, it's usefulness is negated by itself. (+1 - +1 is 0)

As employed in F1, KERS is a second-rate gimmick that belongs in a lower Formula.
