Only problem is engine development ban for two (or tree) more years. I think FIA should allow teams to develop engines that would need less fuel, that would be "green".

Mosley was bleating on about 1.3L turbo engine a few years ago; maybe that'll be an option, only a slightly larger fuel tank would required!

Maybe some of the more technical boffins on here could work out whether 800bhp could come from such a small engine?

they were going 1000HP in the turbo 80s

I believe that was a 1.5L V6 Turbo, Mosley was suggesting a 1.3L straight four turbo a few years back, I think getting 800bhp from such a small engine might be pushing it especially with engines having to last many more miles than a single race weekend in the name of cost cutting!

1.5 V6 to a 1.3 turbo 4 there isnt much to it, id go look up what your average tuner can do with small displacement turbo 4's over in Japan for some big HP. now put the great minds of the F1 engine makers behind it and no doubt they could do amazing things with turbo powered small displacement engines.

all in all to put out a new engine formula would be suicidal as that is going to cost big bucks!

I know that F1 engineers can work wonders with engines but I wonder whether they can get 800bhp and have the same reliability as they do with a 2.5 NA engine. Then you can guarantee that the FIA will meddle with maximum pressure of the turbo in the name of cost cutting!!! despite the engine development costing 10s of millions.

All they would have to do is revert back to the old 1.5ltr formula as all the initial developement is already done and with today's techno advances the engines could be more reliable than they were. Yah I know I'm wishing upon a star but I can dream? They were boosting in access of 50+psi back in the day because of the frankenstein fuel mixtures yet that will not be possible today with them all running 'pump fuel', it can be done with minimum investment believe me.

The good things about a fuelling ban is that we will now get light fuel load qualifying again as they are going to scrap the rule where you have to start with your race fuel. This means that the fastest cars in Q2 will be up the front. This also means we may get a morning Warm Up again.

Another thing is that it will encourage overtaking on track.

If you get stuck behind someone however it won't hurt you to come in early as there is no fuel load strategy. It would actually be beneficial to pit earlier as you will have fresher tyres. That is as long as they don't make you use both sets of tyres in the race.
