Why do they limit it to 26? Can't we handle say 30 in a race, or if we can't, just eliminate some in Q1 or some pre Q method like in the past?

Back in the day; there were more than 13 teams and the drivers that didn't qualify in the top 26 had to sit out the race because there were only 26 grid markings. I assume this is the reason why it's limited to 13 teams so drivers/teams don't have to sit out races after making the effort to haul everything to the race event for nothing!
You cant ditch the politics as long as max remains head of the FIA.
So Max leaves at the end of this year as his contract expires; someone else will come in and who's to say that they won't be any worse? Don't forget that Max can't unilaterally make decisions on his own; he needs the backing of the FIA council so he clearly isn't the only one to like the budget cap idea. In the here and now; everyone hates Mosley but if things worked out for the best and racing was closer and more exciting to watch for the spectator; everyone will be calling him a visionary and the saviour of F1. People are very fickle changing their opinion every five minutes. Probably if I was to find F1 right now; I wouldn't watch but I found F1 in the early 90s when Mansell won the WDC and racing was exciting and unpredictable! It's a combination of conflicting powers, FOM, FIA and FOTA that will ruin F1!

Yes hopefully Max will leave and someone else less self interested than mosely will take over. I know he cant make unilateral decisions but he buys votes. he's corrupt. its how he survived the umpalumpa scandal.

Wow that's a sweeping statement; where's the evidence that he is corrupt or buys votes? if FIA members can be bought; surely the whole body is corrupt; that can't be solely blamed on Max Mosley, and what he does in his personal life is his own business, that has no relation to his FIA duties!
It's about the pits - not enough pit stalls available for more than 26 cars (in Monaco it's even fewer, I believe 22).

First practical answer.
Now, other regs have been made or changed so the track had to make alterations so theoretically what's to stop them just saying hey now it's 28 and the tracks have to comply? Other series have way more pit spots(albeit without garages) and aren't some garages bigger than others just to spoil the big points haul teams? Just theory, just saying, not saying it can or shold be done.

ARRRGGH! Ive just answered this and lost it!! here goes agen!
He did buy votes, it was well documenterd. An African guy I believe(his name anyone??) Mosely does things like providing money for racing to be developed in countries in retun for favours. Did you know that countries steeped in motor racing history such as America, Germany, USA, GB etc only get one vote per country and countries with no motor racing at all get the same? Also, when that vote took place Mosely had it set up so that all those who absteined were counted as votes in his favour.
Yes his personal life is his own but when it brings F1 in to disrepute to such an extent that GP hosting countries wil not allow him to attend the GP, then maybe he should reconsider his position. At the very least he should realise he is not fit to judge what does and what does not constitute bringing the sport into disrepute.
