The rulings that resulted in the banning of things like the mass-damper were rule clarifications, which Ferrari wouldn't even have been able to veto as they were not in fact rule changes.

I'd love to see FOTA have a veto with which to oppose rule changes at any point. There would have to be voting within FOTA and this would have to be qualified majority because the teams would never agree unanimously. It would be good to be able to veto the FIA over stuff like technical regs

Cant comment on your first paragraph because i dont know how the veto worked....what they could and couldnt veto.
I agree with your second paragraph. If the teams put this behind them and try to work together without deceit, and I think they want to, then it can only benefit them all for the future and make F1 fairer and better for all concerned. I suspect the FIA released the information about the veto to try to divide the teams. FOTA have to forget that now and stand united. If the FIA persist I really think Ferrari will walk.

i dunno, i really can't call it. Ferrari have been serious about quitting before and i guess now would be as good a time as any for them to do it but i just can't believe they actually would. If they did, it would cripple F1 and i think they are just relying on the fear factor to get somewhere with the FIA. i wouldn't want to make a bet on whether or not they are serious!

Fact is Ferrari have enjoyed a power no other team has while their current stance is about equality. That is laughable

I do agree with that mate.

Yeah, that's correct. Ferrari did, however, have a hell of a lot of influence with the FIA, so whilst their veto would not have got particular pieces of technology banned, they could push for it them to be banned, and they almost certainly would.

The hypocrisy of Ferrari's currently political stance stinks so badly it fills every recess of the universe, but the others need to stick them with them: Ferrari are the lesser of the numerous evils facing the teams; and the teams need to look forward, not backward.

With apologies to George Orwell, all teams are equal, but some teams are more equal than others.

If Ferrari are willing to remove themselves from the 2010 grid (and I believe they are), there is certainly an element of maintaining/renewing their status as a special team within F1 and ensuring they get their cut and they get their way. I don't blame Ferrari for making that stick, I blame F1 management for fostering that environment and perpetuating that status.

Invoking Orwell is actually not a bad thing. Tradition, ideology, and discourse are all heavily bound up. Only this morning, Ecclestone has repeating his same old mantra: Ferrari are Formula One.

Yes, its true. And definitely not the best for the sport. Hope this is re-considered and all teams are allowed to race on equal, fair and reasonable terms.

Exactly,
Doesn't mean a breakaway serious would make things better. Infact it could easily give Ferrari more power.

doubt that!

No think about it, why did breakaway serious attempt #1 fail?
Because they failed to get Ferrari's support.

Undoubtably the biggest draw to F1 is Ferrari and it would be for the new series. That is why I can imagine the other teams would bend over backwards like the FIA to keep Ferrari onside. Its the truth like it or not.

Why do you think Luca was made president of FOTA?
