Simple solution, I guess, would be to build a car that is easier on its tyres than the MP4-23 but not quite as easy on them as the F2008. Then see how it goes from there.

I didn't realise HK had such a great sense of humour.
No disrespect but he'll be Lewis's biatch again next year.
And ofcourse driving at P1 isn´t any easier than driving in P6 behind Jarno Trulli with your logical thinking right? They can´t tell what Kovi is able to do untill they give him the chance to prove it....

Im not sure what Kovi's fuel was in the last race but most of the time in that race Lewis was under strict instructions to be very conserevative and he was heavy. Kovi had every chance to show what he could do, even if he ultimately had to give Lewis the place he could have shown what he can do. lewis was driving well within himself, Kovi had no reason to be conservative but he could not even do battle with Alonso, Vettel or Kimmi.
He had a chance to show what he can do, he's had several chances this year and some of them on the lighter strategy.
He will not be able to match Lewis next year. No way.

And obviosly the teams most important thing in the last race was that Heikki will be fast? I´m sure they spent all their resources on Heikki in the last race, c´mon........
Kovalainen got all of the upgrades etc. to make his car go faster. The fact of the matter is that in the Brazilian Grand Prix, Hamilton was not trying to win the race; he was racing for fifth. Kovalainen was McLaren's best chance of winning the race, and guess what: he was nowhere; his final classification was 7th, which is absolutely pathetic given that at the very least he had the second-fastest car of the weekend. jsonf1 has no idea what he is talking about. It must be one of the most elaborate conspiracy theories ever that McLaren spend millions of pounds and hundreds of man hours trying to sort out Kovalainen's problems, give his car various new upgrades etc. to sabotage his races and for the team not to want to win the constructors' title.
The car accounts for part of the problem no doubt, but Kovalainen received a lot of attention at the Technology Centre and couldn't get his problems sorted. Kovalainen himself admits he hasn't done a good enough job this season. But that's the point of this thread. jsonf1 is trying to say McLaren were sabotaging Kovalainen's season, which is ludicrous. In fact, come to think of it, jsonf1 is the eejit who was trying to claim Ferrari were conspiring against Raikkonen and acting in favour of Massa over the winter and early in the season, despite the fact Massa was close to being given the sack!

You want to point out where I said that?
C'mon show it.................
Dude you need to get your head out of "there"

Going faster wouldn't help, though, would it? The upgrade that would help the most is one that, for a single race, couldn't really be developed. The way that the car uses its tyres is a part of its core design, so there weren't too many upgrades that could have made that situation better for him without making radical changes to the car. His best bet now will be next year's car, because at least he'll now be in the development frame right from the start. Remember that the MP4-23 would have begun development with Alonso in mind, so if Kovalainen's driving style was different, then obviously there would be issues. The question is, how much of a difference in style do they have?
There were things that could be done on both sides, but with this year's car, he probably wouldn't have been able to perform quite as well as Lewis. Maybe closer than he did, maybe not. We'll find out next year.
Unless McLaren are going to be out to get him again.
