Regardless of my personal dis-like for Ron he's been a skilled opponent, therefore he should be respected.

I wont be sad to see him go however.

Agreed.

Thats interesting DD. You see Ron as an opponent yet you still prfess not to support ferari :?:?

It is sad to see anyones career and lifes work to end on a downer. We seem to be forgetting the Mr Ron Dennis is a humanbeing! With a Wife (at the moment) and children. He has poured blood, sweat, and tears into the sport that he loves.

Well, he'd certainly get my vote as Max's replacement if he gets bored with retirement.

That would be terrible if it were to happen. But thankfully it will not or is extremely unlikely. Whoever eventully takes over from Max needs to have something incomon to him. That is favor the big red machine. I wish it could be me. I would do so many wonders for the world of F1. :D

I don't think any of us realise how difficult it is to keep all the teams, drivers, sponsors and fans happy.

Someone new will come into the position, ready for a fresh start, full of ideals. Eventually the greed and corruption that goes with policing such a cash rich sport will take over and we'll go back to what we have now...

Which if you see it by my point of view is actually ok. :D

Hopefully neither of you will get your way, then. Honest racing is better than anything favouritism can get you. If, through this 'pay-to-win' system of bribery and corruption, any team (even Honda) won both championships for five years in a row, I'd be tempted to watch NASCAR instead...

I've often thought the entire F1 system is 'pay to win'. Ever thought about why the FIA has done nothing to reduce mechanical advantage and turn this back into a Driver's series?

I think it's because they are trying to reduce the impact of the driver so they can provide a good return for their customers. After all, if Bernie had his way all the drivers would be towing around mobile advertising hoards.

In respect F1 has always been a car based series, can go back to Fangio and Moss in the Silver Arrow Mercedes enjoying a dominant car over the rest, F1 is afterall a constructor series not a spec series where its up to the drivers. Even in spec series you will have teams who have better engineers and some teams dominate while others struggle like you get in A1 and IRL.

trying to reduce the impact of the driver? if anything measures being brought in this year are totally opposite to that comment.

Indeed. And it would be nicer if it was a more open series, so that more independant constructors could enter, bringing with them new ideas. :)

It's good to see they are finally making some changes, I'm hoping the driver will be allowed to show his skill more, don't know why they didn't do this a long time ago...

I disagree with your comment bud, I think it was a lot easier in the days of old for drivers to make a difference. Sure there are always going to be good manufacturers but the cars had a lot more mechanical grip back then.

more mechanical grip? even in the 50's?

theres always been in F1, a superior chassis/constructor where it would not matter how good a driver you were as the machine was just far too superior. take 88 for example the McLaren was in a field of its own and it was only up for Prost and Senna to take wins.

Understand the point you are trying to make, so you're saying it's just as easy for a driver to make a difference now then it was previously?

I always thought the Aero made it hard to overtake, it's a fairly common belief.

na im saying previously while the driver skill played a larger part than it does today it was still largely down to the car they were in that produced good results.
