That's a solution, but I find it a bit of a waste...tyres used for on short session and then no more, even with plenty of life left.

Why not just make it mandatory for ALL cars in Q3 to at least do 3 laps in the session (or else you'll be moved to the back of the grid). They can just roll out and cruise around if they wish.

What makes rapidly degrading tyres fake, but long lasting ones natural? It's just a matter of perspective.

Reality... Michelin is pushing all season tires rated for 90k miles... Up and down the pits in Grand Am and LMS you can find cars doing triple stints the lenght of two entire F1 races with regularity in 12 and 24 hour events. Yes, it's not natural to have tires that completely fall off a cliff in 10~12 laps.

Part of the sport and it's the same for everyone but yeah it's not reality.

I wasn't using the word natural as a marker for "standard, or generally accepted", I meant I know the tyres have been contrived intentionally, but so have long lasting tyres. I disagree with the idea that one is "natural or real", but the other is fake.

There where complaints that long lasting tyres were making the racing boring, a new supplier came in with the promise of degrading ones, with a high variation between new and used, they delivered and produced exciting races, I can't really understand the reasoning that just because it was designed to be that way it is wrong and "unnatural" whereas Bridgestone tyres designed to be durable to provide good branding and marketing is" natural". The only problem I have, is that the FIA failed to update the tyre restriction rules to take into account faster degrading tyres.

My problem isn't with the racing it's with the qualifying which is the way it is because an extra set of options come race day is the clearest path to a win more so than having the fastest car on Saturday.

What if brakes were purposely designed to lose their effectiveness 3/4 into the race? Same principal, and just as pointless but boy would it spicy up the racing.

The cliff is another problem, but they don't drop of immediately, there is a fair bit of degradation before they loose grip massively.

That's not true, missing the window by one lap we've seen drivers lose 7 positions in two laps.

The best solution I've heard so far is to simply give everyone that makes it to Q3 a set of options to use only there and give back after the session. Would solve a lot of the qualifying fiasco of not even making an attempt. Anyone that spends $500 dollars for a weekend ticket deserves to see all ten cars running on track on Q3.

Yup, all drivers in Q3 should get a one off set of tires for that session alone.

And they should scrap DRS, in quali even if they havnt got the balls to scrap it from the race, its s***, few years ago we couldve had 4 laps of lewis trying to fend off seb on dying tires, if he had suceeded it would have been described as a masterfull defenceive drive to conserve the points he had achiced with his earlier brilliance, ,
instead we have Seb breeze past without having to do anything, ITS RUBBISH!

Agreed. Overtaking/Defensive driving is a massive skill set in the sport called "racing" and DRS has pretty much negated it. Drives like Alonso's at Imola against Schumacher (held him up practically half the race) is never to be seen again.

I think you've missed some defensive races from Vettel and Schumacher last two years.

Seen some by Vettel not sure about Schumacher? Unless you count Monza when he was driving dirty?

True, Schumacher didn't perse have very defensive whole-races, but he's definitely had his moments of being incrediby hard to overtake.
