You do all realise that it's common knowledge that Ayrton Senna wanted to finish his career at Ferrari? So aside from the fact that he happened to drive for McLaren for 6 years I don't understand why people would say anything along the lines of the above few posts?

LDM said this man...the LDM guy is in this fantasy world where every single driver is dreaming of driving for the most tainted team in F1. Pleeze.

LDM annoys me, who does he think he is? see at Monza he decides to go say hi to the guys on the pit wall like Ross Brawn right at the start of qualifying... oh hi luca how are you going, kinda busy here!

I'm sure if Ferrari really wanted to drop Massa, they would have already.

Maybe he will drive next yr, or maybe some better offer will come up... Senna, Hulkenberg, Sutil? or the rookies? hmmm. For sure not Kubica; he will spend some yrs at Renault if he's able to get back.

Nothing to do with LDM, this was common knowledge even before Senna died, there are multiple sources that have been around for years and years that Senna's plan was always to win the title with Williams but move on to Ferrari when his contract at Williams was finished. From what I remember reading previously various places he was quite open about it with everyone - it wasn't a secret. Even articles on this site (not forum) have discussed this in the past.

Senna at Ferrari?

Nah, Senna was a proper racer... not a team player and puppet. 8-)

I'm not surprised Ferrari have retained a thoroughly underwhelming driver for yet another season. It's all about second-fiddle........ They just wouldn't have to balls to put Alonso with either Button or a rookie. Two-world champs in the same team AND trying out a new guy are both no no's for the Scuderia.

Shame. Bianchi and Alonso would be FUN!!!!

I'm just thinking back; I think the last time Ferrari had two truly equal drivers was back in the early to mid-90s when Alesi and Berger drove for Ferrari (and of course Ferrari were in the doldrums).

I can see why they would do it, the slower driver can do what Webber should be doing and hold up all the drivers behind him.

But it's pointless when Massa is that far behind Alonso. How I see it is the car has been useless since at least '09 (look at Fisi), and Alonso just makes it look good. But Ferrari are not doing themselves any better by keeping Massa. Far out - even Schumacher and the Renaults have finished higher than him. He is now 100 points behind his team mate. (As a side note, Webber is a lot further behind his. :P )

If Ferrari want to move forward they should be prepared to spend the dough to end Massa's contract and try something different.

Theoretically, Red Bull should have done the same thing, but Webber is not compromising both of their championship hopes. Really it's those bloody Toro Rosso drivers who are at fault. If one of them would step up to the plate consistently, we would see them promoted.

But maybe that Toro Rosso is just a piece of crudd, and both drivers are actually driving the wheels off it, and hence are pretty equal. The problem is Red Bull are sitting around waiting for the next Vettel. And it's none of the three drivers they have on the grid right now. They need to look no further than Vergne. It'll be interesting to see his Friday running.

So if next year we see Ricciardo and Vergne in Toro Rosso, what about Alguersuari to Ferrari? Hansy, has that one got your attention? :wavey:

For starters Alguersuari and Ferrari would be an excellent fit because they rhyme with each other... 8-)

Where's the first hand source the main one, Senna saying it? Senna wanted a winning car, no romance in that.
But given the way things turned out with Scumacher going there and the Williams up front until 97, I honestly don't see how he would have gone there.

Perez is looking more likely
Ferrari are reportedly considering Sergio Perez for 2013 as they want "one younger driver with the potential to be great" to partner Fernando Alonso.

Alonso's current team-mate, Felipe Massa, is believed to be living on borrowed time at Ferrari after failing to produce the results - or even match Alonso - since returning from his horrific injury sustained in qualifying for the 2009 Hungarian GP.

With just 84 points compared to Alonso's 184, Ferrari are set to retain Massa for next year's Championship, however, it will most likely be his last with the Italian stable.

One driver they are set to look at is Mexican rookie Perez, who made his debut with Sauber this season.

A member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Perez impressed many at the team during a test at the Fiorano circuit earlier this month.

And Domenicali has hinted that he could have a future at Ferrari in 2013.

"Ferrari cannot have two young drivers, there is incredible pressure at this team. But a mix between an extremely strong driver and one younger with the potential to be great would be complementary," the team boss told Spain's Marca.

Asked whether Perez fitted that role, he would only say that 21-year-old "has a contract with Sauber, which will let him continue to grow and have a good 2012."

Nah, I don't really like Ferrari. The Sauber folk or Bianchi are much more likely anyway; why would they want Jaime? Is Ferrari spanish now? :D (but I must say, if they pick Perez over Kobi it's a really bad move...)

I think the real reason for Ferrari preferring Perez is that he comes with a lot of pesos from Carlos Slim.

Nahh... pesos are a dime a dozen... maybe even less ;)

(but I must say, if they pick Perez over Kobi it's a really bad move...)

How come?? Perez is younger and so far has... well, they've been decently close.

If Ferrari want to move forward they should be prepared to spend the dough to end Massa's contract and try something different.

Theoretically, Red Bull should have done the same thing, but Webber is not compromising both of their championship hopes.

Webber has had 1 poor season, and he was pretty close last one. You could say this yr, it could arguably be due to some funky car feel.. the wheels and so on... Massa has had 2 VERY poor with no obvious weakness other than just not being able to show pace (sure, he struggled with warming the tires, but there's been much more to it).

It'll be awesome if Lewis punctures Massa's tyre again in Suzuka. Even if it gets a drive through...actually I hope they clash again and Massa ends up retiring due to Lewis. :D:D

Probably Massa will retire after another crash with Hamilton in Suzuka... Hamilton will be able to continue and then he'll retire crashing with Maldonado!
