Now that Gene Tote guy is saying one of the 21 will be dropped, he's just not yet sure which one.

:hehe: It seems that the FIA doesn't even have the courage of it's convictions... Jean Todt has become a joke, I least Max stood up for what he believed was right!!!

This just a chip that Bernie will use... It is like watching The Apprentice, which track will go? the one that does not make Sir Bernie the most money or is not very compliant.

As much as I love F1; 21 races is way too many; it's just Bernie's greed fuelling the extra races; no consideration for logistics and cost to the teams, more Tilkedromes than decent tracks!

why so much consideration for cost to the teams? They keep getting a bigger share of profits anyway. Plus, as someone else mentioned, it's a huge boost to local economies.

If your a top team constantly at the sharp end of the points, yes; but the smaller teams are struggling financially to get around the world with all their trucks and equipment. And does the local economies really benefit that much? half of these new venues are less than half full and often causes chaos which doesn't help the locals at all! A lot of the newer Tilke tracks don't attract much following from locals and the circuit owners make a big loss; this is the problem in Turkey right now, Bernie charges too much and they are running at a big loss!

i see your points. I guess i just have trouble sympathizing with people in such a prestigious and highly-paid occupation (relative to mine).

I wonder if they're essentially over-booking with the knowledge that a few might fall-through. Anyone notice if Turkey gets scrapped, there's 4 weeks in-between Korea and Spain?

I think you will find that the "prestigious and highly-paid occupation" is only a handfull of people who are in the teams. Think of the families that will not see there mums or dads for 9 months of the year because they are always at a race track a million miles away.

Agreed! I thought Todt was sitting in the backgrounds and being quiet for the good of the sport. It looks like he's been quiet due to him just not wanting to be involved, or maybe too much of a little 'feline' to make the call!

Bernie's revised calendar here.

There are doubts that India will be fully ready by the original October date - unlikely that April will work. With Turkey off his list and questions over whether anyone will agree to race at Bahrain we could be back to 19 races if Bernie gets his way. And a quick flit to Canada in the middle of the European races will no doubt endear him further to the teams.

I completely agree with you on that. What do you think would happen if Bahrain couldn't hold its GP because of political situations and such, try to put the race in the end of the year again? Then we would have 18 and then maybe 20 in the 2013 season. I could only guess.

Although Bernie's idea of separating Montreal and Austin is a stinker, as is the removal of Istanbul Park, I do prefer having Melbourne as the season opener.

Istanbul Park is no loss. The track is largely unmemorable save for 1 corner and it generates nowhere near enough revenue to make it worth keeping. Sound sence to ditch this track.

The calander seems pretty good. Splitting Austin and Montral is no big issue. Austin is right before Interlagos and Canada has a decent gap either side so the teams have nothing to complain about, though no doubt they will.

Well, they either have it as it is, or if they dont like travelling, then Bernie could always put Canada-USA-Brazil in 3 consecutive weekends at the end of the season.

Wait a sec, they wont like that either

Bernie just needs to decide on a Calendar and within reason, thats it. If we let the teams start moaning and listen, we will never get a calendar sorted.

This chip could be used another way, the teams accept a 21 race schedule in exchange for dropping the Electric Mode in Pit Rule.
