I had this excitement nearing last year when Alonso was in a Ferrari and thought Merc will get them in 2014.....but in the end they had already spanked them back in 2013 by a point.

Beating Vettel in a non-blown diff Ferrari.....meh. Vettel is just a pretty talented kid who struck a 4 year lottery, everyone knows Ferrari are sunk next year with their expected line up.

GPUpdate Ferrari's new Chairman, Sergio Marchionne, has vowed to take risks to return to the front of the F1 grid.

Marchionne, the CEO of Ferrari parent company Fiat, officially took over the reins on Monday, when former President Luca di Montezemolo – on board the Italian marque for 23 years – stepped down from his position.

With the team chasing its first world title since the 2008 season, he says immediate action is required.

"We've got to kick some bottom and we've got to do it quickly," Marchionne explained in an interview with Autocar magazine. "It takes what it takes. We might screw up, but we've got nothing to lose, right? Let's risk something."

Marchionne described Ferrari's Italian Grand Prix showing, which yielded just two points, as the turning point.

"I keep getting reminded that racing is not a science. And then I go to Monza and see that the first six cars are not Ferrari or powered by a Ferrari engine, and my blood pressure just popped," added the 62-year-old.

While Marchionne has bold plans for the road car division, he says F1 success is his "main objective".

"A non-winning Ferrari on the Formula 1 track is not Ferrari," Marchionne went on to comment.

"I can live with periods of bad luck, but it cannot become a structural element of the brand."

Interesting how Merc were always said by many (mostly Ferrari fans) to be always 1 step away from quitting F1 if they didnt get results. When you hear Sergio talk about taking a gamble that might or might not work out, and then talk about F1 performance not been allowed to tarnish the brand, then when you consider his modus operandi in stripping sentiment and waste from companies and getting them earning their keep.....

then its not rocket science to get what he is saying, if the lack of success continues then the best time to get rid would be as soon as possible while the brand is still 'mythical' and not reality based. If he doesnt see a turnaround quickly enough then why would he want to keep it near wholly owned when the cash trapped in the brand could be realised and the money used for a proper car company with sustainable long term revenue projections once turned around. And they would still have their high end product in Maserati thats making at least as nmuch profit as ferrari for Fiat but without the ridiculous over inflated trapped cash amount in its brand

The tifosi need to realise that Ferrari could be owned by a Chinese company soon, or could branch out into making handbags or hairdressing products and save a fortune for the new owner by not wasting money in F1

Seems the 2015 Ferrari might be 2 seconds slower than this years car - and no reg changes etc to blame. If true it would explain why MnM is desperate for an unfreeze because a whole year of car development with a low power heavy engine would be futile starting 2 secs behind

Or maybe they reintroduced their satellite sandbagging system, but then it could be worse than 2 secs

It does make more sense to concentrate on bringing the off throttle exhaust blowing back than to bother trying to change the engine freeze rules. Because the last thing they will need is to improve their fuel consumption when they will need to use 20% more fuel to keep Seb from losing the back end through corners
