Then Button will gain even more points and build an even larger lead over Hamilton in the championship, again not by out-driving Hamilton but by having more dumb luck.

Keeping your car out of the barrier/the back of another car isn't dumb luck.

I don't agree with that statement; Jenson Button has not been lucky; he has made the correct calls and drove with his head; Hamilton let's his emotions get in the way of his driving; often getting himself in trouble. Sure there is always an element of luck in racing but saying Jenson is leading the championship by "dumb" luck is disrespectful!

The romance bet is that RK gets a better start than Webber and has a quicker car all race. He did all weekend except for one crucial moment LOL. OTOH it's also romantic to hope Webber gets pole and win 2 races in a row. I'd be happy for either of them to win. I think Alonso will get more than a few measly points.

Well a few people on here picked Webber pretty early....I think Bud was the first. Good pick people.

Very impressed that he took pole by 0.3 & was 0.4 quicker than Vettel.

I must ask why has peoples opinion change in regard to Webber/Vettel? I mean people very early on thought Vettel would be too good for Webber but now we are picking him to out qualify Vettel?

Has Webber been under estimated or is Vettel not driving to his potential?

Possibly alittle bit of both perhaps? Although I do think even Piquet Jr. or Nakajima could put the Redbull one pole :hehe: .

IMO... Vettel hasn't reached his potential as a driver in general, there are a lot of niggling little things despite that incredible raw speed he has. No doubt Vettel was better overall last season, but they've been pretty evenly matched so far in 2010! Webber is one hell of a capable driver if you remember back to past seasons, he put in heroic performances in quali/races for Jaguar and Williams over the years but only sporadically - and the same can be said of last season. Perhaps now he has merely turned a corner and we are seeing signs of him bringing consistency to his game....

 to both points. Since Webber grabbed his first win his driving and determination has improved immensely, he could be a contender for the title.

Indeed; Robert Kubica was the surprise of the weekend; seems that Renault have brought a decent car to the races this season. I would be happy to see Kubica win; although I expect Mark to lead from start to finish; Lewis will probably crash out making a rash move after getting frustrated behind other cars. Jenson will have another solid finish maybe fourth to just about hold onto his championship lead with Alonso out of the running for big points.

Haha nice one! You know the way things have turned out so far you could be right. But it would be more down to bad luck than frustration; judging by the interviews Buttons seems to be more emotionally volatile than Hamilton.

Being emotional in interviews and being emotional in the car is too very different things; in the car Jenson seems to be much more calm and collected.

With the difficulty of passing around here, timing the first pitstop is going to be vital. We've often seen a situation where pitting early is an advantage as a driver on fresh tyres can put in some faster laps than someone on worn tyres, and leap frog them. In this race, someone pitting early is more likely to end up in slower traffic, losing time to someone on worn tyres but in clear air.

If Alonso had been in the sessions, he could have challenged for pole I'd guess. Bad for the race, but promising over a longer time period.

Kubica and Massa could challenge the Red Bulls, but I suspect that the RB will be faster in the race, such that Kubica could have his work cut out keeping Vettel behind, while Mark builds a gap and a safe lead.

So much for those who spent some time in the early part of this thread claiming that McLaren were "mega" around Monaco. Just not fast enough.

I fcking hate Red Bull, I just can't praise those drivers who rely on the car only. I'm waiting for other teams to start competing with them in qualifying and then we'll see the real game. Kubica is unbelievable, he brought 101% out of his car today, can't even compare him to Petrov, just a class of itself. Tomorrow's race is going to be interesting, as Red Bull don't have SUCH A BIG advantage over others in qualy, which means no advantage in the race.

I'm just can't bear to watch Lewis putting everything out there and getting a 5th place, it's still okay but he's had so much unluck this season and if tomorrow something happens to him again I'm gonna quit watching F1. At least he's showing he's better than Button right now

What a redundant comment. You hate people who rely on the car but apparently all the other drivers need better cars to beat Webber? Just face it, Webber has been handed a fast car and is taking advantage of the speed, you can't rip on him for doing that. Not to mention he's been quick in slower cars, it's just this year his confidence seems to be up.
