You know, I have to question the wisdom of Mercedes choosing Nico as their lead driver. He's not bad or slow by any stretch of the imagination, but is he the guy you'd send into battle against Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button & co.? He's pretty good, but he's done little to show that he can hold his own against all these race winners and champions. Heidfeld is a slightly more sensible choice, because he's reliable, but he's not a proven world-beater either. All in all, it's a pretty boring driver pairing. Safe, predictable and uninspiring in every way.

Indeed but Button shouldn't be in your list.. he's far from one of the top 4 drivers... However you greatly underestimate how good Nico and Heidfeld could be with the right cars.

Rosberg's a bit of a risk, he had a very good mid-season and a bit of a disaster at the end, but he's got potential. Heidfeld is Mr stability with great experience. I suppose it comes down to how much potential you see in Rosberg, I think he's got plenty while some think he's got little. We'll have to wait and see, but it looks like a promising partnership to me.

I rate Glock higher than Rosberg.

Button is a World Champion, that automatically puts him in the same league as the other champions. Mathematically, that puts him in the top group along with Fernando, Lewis & Kimi as well as likely future champ Vettel. Circumstances come into play in allowing talent to show through, but once it's shown it's shown.

I rate Glock higher than Rosberg.
I'll probably agree, Glock has a lot more potential than Rosberg who seems to have spent 4 years resting on the ol' "I'll blame the car" trick whilst waiting for someone to decide he's good enough to poach. Note for the record that only when a German manufacturer wanting a German lineup came along did that happen.

I don't know about that, there have been rumours about Rosberg all year, he was tipped for a McLaren seat at one point. Many people were singing his praises until it all went pear shaped at the end of the season.

Glock has been up there tho Podiums in 08 and 09 and he's got a better podium strike rate than nico for 2 years compared to nico's 4.

He's also scored more points than nico on average.

Touché. :hehe:

But the speculation wasn't without merit imo, he did have a very good mid-season and was praised accordingly, by many people.

Judging on points alone is tricky because they've been in different cars their entire F1 careers. I'm not saying that Glock has no potential, just that I see more in Rosberg at the moment.

fair enough i just think Glock is a little more mature than Nico he seams to make too many mistakes for 4 year formula 1 veteran compared to Glock who was a rookie in 2008

True, and I'm not saying he's not got potential, just that he's a fairly uninspiring choice to take on, say, Alonso and Hamilton next year.

I disagree with you so much here, winning the championship doesn't put them in the same league as the others.

Lets put it this way, me and you race for 4 years in the same sort of cars with not a great deal in difference in speed, You win all 4 championships, then for the next 4 years you can drive a Ford Focus, I will have a Pagani Zonda and I win these 4 championships... I am in the same league as you?

The Circumstances don't allow telent to show through, just shows that his car was SIGNIFICANTLY better than the rest

Except that was only the case for part of this season...
