As predicted; schools in Wichita and surrounding areas are closed today because a bit of windchill; last time I checked school was an indoor activity!

There are usually two main reasons why schools are closed: the buses can't drive in the snow (or it's deemed too dangerous), especially when snowplows have not been able to keep up in the morning.
The other consideration that school principals have are the kids waiting in the cold for the bus. They can't afford a lawsuit claiming that a son/daughter died of hypothermia while waiting for the school bus.

You're not driving around school bus stops are you? :yikes: While wearing a t-shirt that says; Strangers have the BEST candy. :yikes:

Are students not allowed to stay inside the school until the bus arrives? In my experience the buses arrive a good 10 minutes before schools out! The snow isn't that bad here in Kansas, we get a few inches at a time; with the big wheels on the buses it should be easy to drive.

I'm talking kids waiting for the bus near their home - often they can't stay in the house as they have to walk a little bit to where the bus picks them up (and if they're not there when the bus arrives, they miss the bus). So, they wait and wait but the bus in those conditions is late, so they wait longer and freeze to death...

Parents build shelters for their kids to wait in here in Canada. They range from 'sentry boxes' to grander affairs like this:

That's the spirit - that way, if they freeze to death, they're already in their own mausoleum...

Canadians are so nice, in America there would be a family of three living in that grander affair, or at least a semi-permanent resident homeless guy.

Super Bowl activities have been postponed..
