StefanGP will learn the hard way when Nakajima writes off one of their chassis or gets knocked out in Q1.

Here's what i don't get - why would Toyota be so keen to get Nakajima in that car? I don't see what they'd have to gain from it at all.

I imagine they likely have the same pressure as Honda did with Sato from the Japanese public.

To me this situation is quite a bit different to Sato though, Super Aguri were Honda funded whereas Stefan have merely purchased assets from Toyota. I guess my point is not why Toyota want Nakajima in the car, but why Stefan are (apparently) considering it? Seems crazy and illogical to me...

You're factoring Super Aguri in backwards. Honda put their backing behind Super Aguri almst exclusively because they needed a seat for Sato. The team was just Japanese for convenience really - after all, it operated in the UK under the partial discretion and support of the then "Honda Racing F1 Limited" Company.

Perhaps i worded my post poorly but that's what i was getting at anyway. I don't really see what benefit Sato brought Honda (via the Super Aguri connection) either, except perhaps that they wanted to keep your average Japanese joe watching, thus giving the works Honda team exposure... something that obviously won't apply to Toyota here.

What you have to understand about Japan is that honour is everything, especially in business. Heck, the Japanese were fairly pissed off when Honda ditched Bridgestones for Michelins. That's why they were so keen to keep Brackley F1 running after their pullout. When they dropped Sato from the Honda F1 Team, the Japanese public were mildly outraged at this kind of treatment of a Japanese driver by a Japanese company, so Honda set up Super Aguri to give him a seat to appease their native followers.

This whole thing is something I don't understand. Is Stefan GP a whole other team or are they trying to buy Campos? Because I thought that Campos was going to become Stefan. I'm just so confused and I sound like a total n00b...which I kind of am. But can someone please explain all of this to me :(

Stefan GP is a whole different team who have frequently been rumoured to be interested in buying the Campos chassis, even though they have no need for it because they already have the damn Toyotas. Think of them as the old Toyota team, but owned by the Serbians and with some operations there.

Stefan are looking very likely now. Lopez is looking for a drive at Campos now, Youtube is in talks with Campos, USF1's base is on sale, USF1 have no compelted chassis, Peter Windsor has said to Lopez's father that they may (more like will) miss the first the three races and maybe the year. I think we may see a 26 car gird with no USF1 and a 24 car grid for the first 2 or 3 rounds while Campos are getting things sorted

Plus Stefan have had 4 drivers linked to them, Nakajima, Ralf, Klien and Jaques

Stefan should place Ralf & Klien as their drivers. The two of them have worked together in the past at Toyota.

I really don't want Nakajima back in F1 he was hopeless.

Campos have made noises about actually getting somewhere and things sound pretty grim for USF1. It's a no brainer fro me for Stefan to take over USF1's entry when they finally admit they aren't going to make it.

Villeneuve linked to Stefan GP return

By Dieter Rencken and Pablo Elizalde Thursday, February 18th 2010, 08:51 GMT

Jacques Villeneuve could return to Formula 1 this year if the Stefan GP team gains an entry to compete in the championship, AUTOSPORT has learned.

The 1997 F1 world champion is understood to have agreed terms to join the Serbian squad, which is still hoping to race in Formula 1 this year despite not having an entry, and an announcement could come as early as next week.

Sources close to the team have told AUTOSPORT that the 38-year-old Canadian would likely be joined by Japanese driver Kazuki Nakajima with Indian Karun Chandhok serving as a reserve driver.

Chandhok wrote on his Twitter account, however, that nothing had been signed yet.

"To clarify, at the moment there is no agreement with Stefan GP," he wrote. "Trust me, if I have an F1 deal signed and confirmed, I would shout it out proudly from the roof tops."

Villeneuve has not raced in Formula 1 since competing for BMW in 2006, although the Canadian has admitted he was actively seeking an option to return to grand prix racing.

The former Williams, BAR and Renault is understood to be training in the Austrian Alps and has remained active since leaving grand prix racing - having participated in two Le Mans 24 Hours races for Peugeot and an aborted NASCAR campaign.

Stefan GP, who has bought the rights to use Toyota's design for this year, is scheduled to test at the Portimao circuit at the end of the month. The team has also sent equipment both to Bahrain and Malaysia in case it receives an entry to race.

Although the Serbian squad does not have an entry, doubts still surround the future of the US F1 and Campos Meta projects, both of which are listed in the 2010 line-up but are yet to launch their cars or finalise their driver line-up.

Why would Lopez change teams, YouTube lose hope, and the base be for sale?

Toyota was still playing at the time; the new teams got approved even before BMW announced they were quitting. They got serious when they bought the Toyota chassis, and look a plausible option now that Campos and USF1 are going downhill.

Of course they are also in talks with Dallara about future development. Looking like we'll have 2 govt funded teams in F1 next season then. :hehe::hehe:
