It all depends. If Button does go to McLaren, then Kimi is down and out. There won't really be anywhere the following year, since any contracts for the top teams will probably be for a few years.

But button would be stupid to go to McLaren. Lewis vs Button in a McLaren. Poor Jenson will look very bad, considering McLaren is a team built around Lewis. He would be better off at Brawn. I think it could all simply bargaining tactics. By making it look very much like Button will go to McLaren, Kimi is forced to bargan.

Kimi really needs to lower his value. Whatever happened to drivers not caring about money, and that it was all about racing. :rolleyes:

I agree, Jenson would be better at Brawn. But Brawn doesn't exist any more, so the issue is, does he actually have the opportunity to drive for Mercedes

Still Nick Fry and Ross Brawn running the team, and choosing the drivers though. Mercedes already have a german with Rosberg, they don't really have a say right now.

Corporate doublespeak could be at work though.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kimi's retired from F1 and not made any announcement about it.

That would be so brilliantly typical of him. Gah, it's gonna SUCK with no Raikkonen.

The only way Kimi retirement being confirmed as well depends on which of these happens first;

1. ALL drivers for the 2010 Championship are confirmed and there is no sight of Kimi.
2. Kimi goes Rallying.

3. Kimi buys a pub

in theory it is. kimi won't take a chance on a "new" team. its mclaren or wrc for him sadly, he is one of my favourite drivers and was awesome on his day in the mclaren!

Well its official folks

NOVEMBER 17, 2009
Kimi out of F1 in 2010

Kimi Raikkonen will not be in Formula 1 in 2010. Steve Robertson, one of his management, told the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat on Tuesday that negotiations for a drive with McLaren were over.

Raikkonen may try to come back again in 2011 when there will be other drives available, possibly at Red Bull Racing. Robertson told the newspaper that Raikkonen will do some rallying next year and may race in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The news could be interpreted as confirmation that Jenson Button has a deal with McLaren, but it is hard to imagine that Brawn would be happy with Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg, neither of whom has won a race. It still makes so much more sense for Button to stay at Brawn and Heidfeld join Hamilton at McLaren.

Mercedes has just splashed out to buy a top Formula 1 team and it is hard to imagine that it will allow the World Champion to walk away over a few million dollars.
