Mercedes renews McLaren's engine deal

By Jonathan Noble Monday, November 16th 2009, 12:03 GMT

McLaren will retain its engine supply deal with Mercedes-Benz for at least another six years, despite the German car company's new involvement at Brawn GP.

Mercedes-Benz ended weeks of speculation about its future F1 plans on Monday when it announced that it was buying a controlling stake in Brawn.

Its switch in focus to Brawn had led to speculation that it could turn its back on McLaren entirely when its current deal ended in 2011.

However, following discussions over the last few weeks, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz have reached agreement for an engine supply deal until at least the end of 2015. The terms of the deal mean that there are options for the commitment to extend beyond then too.

With Mercedes switching its main focus to Brawn GP, it has also been announced that the McLaren Group will purchase the 40 per cent shareholding that Daimler AG currently has in the team. This will take place in a phased process to be completed before 2011.

according to this it doesnt seem McLaren are going it alone on the engine front :crying:

To be fair they need time to devlop there own engine 5 years gives them that time.

It would be bad if we only had until 2011 to find another supplir it would just end up as Cosworth Mclaren in 2012.

As for the Livery you have to admit the Rocket Red would work well with the White and Vodafone livery.

BMWs engine is already developed though. its all in place. but i was thinking if they did buy them they would use them in 2011 so they can design the car around it while in 2010 use Mercedes still. Coinciding with the 2011 release of the MP4-12C

who knows it might still happen I think Ron wants McLaren to become that.

definite no http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_ ... t_id=39569:banghead: and as for the livery it will remain unchanged and the team will remain Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.

i never liked the marlboro colours. Too many F1 teams use white no their cars, it's like the corporate go-to colour. Whoot on the Mercedes Benz F1! They could go all white too, white is the national racing colour of Germany. The silver arrows were only silver because Mercedes were found to be fractionally overweight before the German grand prix one year and they stripped all the paint off. It turned out to be a good look and they stuck with it.

Nico Rosberg will be their lead driver, with Nick Heidfeld his likely partner according to bbc

You could be right but i dont think they'll annouce it until they are sure its as good as if not better than the Merc.
