Let's face it; the word presidency has politics written all over it and we all know that politicians lie to get into power so I expect this election to be no different.

But I would rather have Vatanen over Todt because he will be a neutral party (as far as F1 is concerned) being a rally man. Todt has far too much past involvement in F1.

Surely some experience of F1 would be beneficial, no?

I don't believe it to be a requirement; the teams have the F1 experience; why can't Vatanen simply liaise with the technical gurus at the teams, which is what is required; more cooperation between teams and the governing body; a point that Mosley sorely missed and I believe that Todt will be no different - "continuing Mosley's good work" - not good!

That sounds a little too idealistic for me!

Would you prefer a nurse to operate on you or a surgeon?

Who would fit that bill then?

F1 dosen't strike me as a one foot in one foot out type of sport.

It depends. If he really was to go through and put different people in charge of different sports, and focus on being FIA president, I'd find it less problematic than if he simply stepped straight in to Mosley's role. I, too, would prefer Vatanen, but Todt's manifesto does not look bad at all.

It's not like Vatanen doesn't have any motorsport experience is it? He is more than qualified to be president. I'm sure he is more than aware of how F1 works; your analogy doesn't really work in this situation. Being president is as much about politics as technical knowledge and I would say that Vatanen is better suited in that regard than Todt!

I've already written somewhere else, Vatanen is better option, definitely. As you've mentioned (or at least, most of you here) Vatanen has nothing to do with F1 which is quite good. It's important to shake up things a little bit. Todt wouldn't make a change since he has Mosley's support.

Ari for the president! :hehe:

Well you say "F1 doesn't strike you..."
It sounds like you don't know, or haven't followed the sport for very long?

I think it's an ok analogy! Just pointing out that you usually need experience of something to deliver on it. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport after all and kind of a world unto itself. Also please can you qualify your statements a little?

How is he more than qualified to be president? How are you 'sure' he knows how f1 works? Does he have more technical information than Todt or is he better at the politics or both?

As far as I understand it, Todt is the most successful team manager the sport has known. Therefore past alliances aside, probably the person best positioned to do the job. Shame Ross Brawn had his hands full.

Being a Mclaren fan it obviously worries me a little that he is going to win.

I'm really not sure how you came to that conclusion. Perhaps you should read the thread again and maybe my point will make more sense. :)
