That should be phrased better. I mean direct returns i.e. money from Bernie. Williams do not do anything other than race in F1 yet there costs are extremely high, all for them to finish in the mid-field. They don't make much profit competing and do not have a road car business to broaden their profile outside of F1 so what is the point? Frank is destined to be outspent and by the manufacturers that have those outside interests that allow them to spend over $100 million a year.
I bet even Ferrari do not make a direct profit from competing in F1 even with their special deal.
Di Montizemolo, Ferrari and FOTA will win out in this battle because the FIA have shown their hand by putting back the deadline yet again for the FOTA teams to enter the 2010 championship unconditionally. I still don't believe that FOTA have the right to be dictating rules but they called the FIA bluff and they have won the battle in my opinion. It seems the FIA had no intention of leaving the 8 FOTA teams out of the 2010 championship. FIA = No Credibility!
The FIA will be running a carnival show without the manufacturers. Max realises that but I don't think he will back down on this. He would rather destroy F1 to keep his ego and pride intact. That being said a budget cap needs to be implemented no matter what the teams think. F1 is way to expensive for very little return. Hopefully comprimise can be reached
For very little return?
F1 is a hotbed for development, a playground for research and design - that's value. Plus how can you put (or ignore to put) a value on exposure, PR, TV time that your company is seen worldwide by a billion people?
