Di Montizemolo, Ferrari and FOTA will win out in this battle because the FIA have shown their hand by putting back the deadline yet again for the FOTA teams to enter the 2010 championship unconditionally. I still don't believe that FOTA have the right to be dictating rules but they called the FIA bluff and they have won the battle in my opinion. It seems the FIA had no intention of leaving the 8 FOTA teams out of the 2010 championship. FIA = No Credibility!

The FIA will be running a carnival show without the manufacturers. Max realises that but I don't think he will back down on this. He would rather destroy F1 to keep his ego and pride intact. That being said a budget cap needs to be implemented no matter what the teams think. F1 is way to expensive for very little return. Hopefully comprimise can be reached

For very little return?
F1 is a hotbed for development, a playground for research and design - that's value. Plus how can you put (or ignore to put) a value on exposure, PR, TV time that your company is seen worldwide by a billion people?

That should be phrased better. I mean direct returns i.e. money from Bernie. Williams do not do anything other than race in F1 yet there costs are extremely high, all for them to finish in the mid-field. They don't make much profit competing and do not have a road car business to broaden their profile outside of F1 so what is the point? Frank is destined to be outspent and by the manufacturers that have those outside interests that allow them to spend over $100 million a year.

I bet even Ferrari do not make a direct profit from competing in F1 even with their special deal.

Im not much of a Ferrari fan but good on them for standing firm and not taking it up the hoop from the FIA

I agree with you. My respect for them grows! Max is an egotistical maniac putting himself and his ego before F1. Ferrari have continued to stand firm and again threatened to withdraw if conditions are not met. A whole host of car manufacures(not just those in F1) have come out to support the teams against Max.You see it really is just one stupid old man!! Red Bull have also said that despite the FIA enering them, they stand with the teams. I dont think anyone argues against a budget cap, its the dogmatic way it is being introduced along with the inability of the FIA (Max) to govern the sport fairly and with stable rules that is p!ssing off the teams.

"flexibility" is the key word, old Mosley needs to be a little bit more flexible with the budget cap but refuses to budge on it like the stubborn old fool he is :banghead:

I dont think that Bernie should leave as he has made the sport what it is.

And he is now in the process of destroying it. Formula One's profile might be slightly higher in recent years, but its core fanbase is becoming increasing disillusioned with the sport: classic circuits are no longer on the calendar; ticket prices are crippling for most ordinary people; everything seems to be geared around maximising Ecclestone and CVC's income, rather than the entertainment value of Formula One, etc.

Maybe this has been in the pipeline for some time; storm clouds have been gathering over F1 ever since the last breakaway series threat that was adverted by individual contracts being negotiated! Bernie may well have his fingers in a GPWC alternative series so is getting what he can from F1 before bailing; he isn't getting any younger!!!

The FIA have definitely proved they don't have the courage of their convictions; it seems like empty threat after empty threat! Many are losing patience with the situation!

exactly, how much f,ing money does he need? he will never spend the ammount he already has so why keep bleeding it dry

Montezemelo has said this morning(BBC website I think I saw it) that if the conditions are not met then it will be a breakaway.

I think they are actually quite serious about this break away thing, but its not going to be set up over night it could take years to set up so what will the big teams do till then (if it goes ahead )

It wont be that difficult and i doubt Montezemelo would have said its one of two things, compromise or breakaway, if they werent ready to move. Theyve been looking at it for a while. I imagine there is a viable option ready.

Na it wont take years to set up. getting tracks onboard wont be too hard. but i am certain a break away wont include Australia at first, but i can live with that.

i dont think its just a case of getting tracks onboard TBH, i "think" there could be alot more behind the scenes stuff too it than that

like what? the teams are already intact. tracks are already in place its whats left is hand shaking.

Well being 100% honest i dont know what, but i fail to see it just being a case of getting some cars then getting some tracks few hand shakes and were off racing lol

For the size of these events and the countries they visit there must be a massive ammount of forward planning goes on behind the scenes, I would imagine a whole new set of rules would be needed as i doubt the FIA would be non pleased about the use of theres, this wouldent be a small task in its self if it had to be done, governing body would FOTA be the governing body? i doubt it would make sense having the teams govern them selfs alot of rule bending being the issue

this is all IMO though
