Given the same equipment I believe that Lewis would probably win out of the pair simply because of his aggressive attitude to overtaking, Jenson is definitely the smoother driver and looks after his car better but I believe he lacks aggression on the track; has he overtaken a leading competitor on the track this year? He seems to win a lot of races based upon strategy; which of course is managed by the legendary strategist that is Ross Brawn!

I could see Lewis winning most head to heads, but losing out overall due to more DNFs and "adventure" related poor finishes. Don't forget that we still have a point system that rewards consistency over outright aggression.

Lewis is More focused as a driver, prob because of his long term relationship with McLaren. And more consistent when not under pressure based on 2007.

For Lewis's 2 full seasons in F1 he's matched his team mate or beaten them.

it took Jenson 3 seasons to comprehensivly beat his team mate and 7 to win a race, arguably he hasn't been a race winning car until now but the 04 car was 2nd best and i think with say Lewis, Alonso or Kimi that car could of Won races.

Currently Jenson is doing great but from Lewis past performance vs Jensons i'd say he is the superior driver.

In the same car Lewis would be faster.

No ... in the same car lewis wud be bragging about s*** he knows none about

I disagree tony, why don't you try supporting your argument?

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

You can however completely fail to impress in a top flight car.

You mean like Rubens Barrichello does? You remember him - got beaten hollow by that German fella at Ferrari. Ok, Rubens had a contract that said he was No2 but he is the same guy being beaten hollow by Jenson & without any No2 status.

Actually I think Rubens is doing a damn good job when you consider who he is up against this season.

& Lewis' current team mate is that same guy that beat that German in the same car in the ROC so he can't be that bad.

Unless we allow for the fact that MS was no better than average but was blessed with a team built around him & a compliant FIA helping him every way it could.

Give Lewis Hamilton a competitive car--- the Mp4-24 is total crap, and he can out drive anyone on earth.

just because you dislike a driver doesnt mean he will be slower.. thats just a weak argument Tony but nothing new for you!

Really? 2006 springs to mind...
And what about his performance in 2004? Spectacular. As for the RA107 and RA108, they make this year's MP4-24 look like championship material.

ok maybe i should have put, has hardly scored a point in recent years

It will be locked by tomorrow, but it sprung in my mind that we have never had 2 brits at the top at the same time. Now Lewis is awesome and I hope one day I can match his pace in GP2. But with Button, he's smooth and collected, but with over taking Hamilton is allot more aggressive and has impressed me the most out of the two, I hope McLaren are up to scratch in 2 weeks!

You mean only just being able to defeat Nelson Piquet :D

Personally I believe Jenson is a much more complete driver right now. I think we all seen it last year, Hamiliton made loads of mistakes and was only just able to take the title, in what I personally think was a better car. We seen him hit Kimi in the pits, we seen him irraticly dive into the first corner at Fuji, and we seen him mess up in Monza quali. Jenson mistakes so far. Ahh, he did lock a brake at Monaco, but thats the height of what I've seen from him this year. A single locked brake. Jenson Button this year, has driven to pure perfection. Even during the awful flood conditions of Malaysia, I don't recall seeing Jenson's car so much as twitch.

Thats personally why I think Jenson is driving much much better.

Also, I wouldn't say Jenson suits modern F1 cars better. I mean, have we ever heard Hamiliton complain loads about set-up. Not really, simply because I think Lewis and that McLaren go together perfectly.

Put Lewis Hamilton in Barichello's seat driving the BGP 001, and he'll back on top. No one will even come close.

although i agree that he would be able to claim back the lead i don't think he would walk all over button it would be difficult for him

I think if you put them both in the BGP 001, Jenson would come out on top. It's somewhat logical, when you look at the performance of Button and Barrichello over the course of the season so far.
