However i don't belive they will get the money since its a sporting organization

They are also a business.

Yeh but there a sporting organization ONLY the business is to go out and race.

Wheras Mclaren have several other compaines such as Mclaren Electronics Systems and Mclaren Automotive that sell consumer products, so they could apply for the grant for that side of the business.

A business is still a business. They are UK-based, they manufacture cars and their main role is that of a company. Unless the bail-out specifically states that sporting companies are not eligible, then there is no real reason why Honda Racing (or Williams or McLaren's Formula One team or technically even Renault) would not qualify.

I would rather see Fry's buyout go ahead. If, however, it did not, I wouldn't mind too much to see Honda getting a loan if it saved 700 peoples' jobs.

Government's should not be loaning any money to any business. If they let Woolworths (which employed more people) go down then Honda has got no business asking them for money

That's hardly the point. Just because Woolworths didn't get help doesn't mean it's a good idea to let other companies die.

If you let Woolworth's go down then turn around and save Honda it is total hypocrisy if you measure a business's worth by the number of employees it has

i think we can more or less agree that there is no substance to this story...
but hyperthetically, if they had asked, Mr mandelson would laugh his socks off. Lets remember the govt are not throwing cash at these companies, they are merely being a guarentor for their credit line.
The British government will not support a business which is fundimentally unsound. The auto industry in the uk is a viable one in the long term, but has major short term issues with the flow of credit. Honda racing on the other hand, are about as far from a viable business as you can get.
