Yeah I think HK does the job. I mean RD and MW seem to think that he is the business.
Certainly last season he had a hard time with LH outclassing him, but he had to carry alot more fuel during qualifying than LH, so that usually put him way down around FA, NH, RK and even the likes of NR and JT.

Next season he has alot of impressing to do, for RD, MW and NH to continue to retain him. I hope he can give the likes of LH, KR, FM and FA a proper challenge next season.

Well apparently Martin Whitmarsh is a Heikki fan. So considering the second Ron leaves, Whitmarsh becomes chief. I'd say Kovy is secure enough in that respect.

Also, Kovy wasn't as slow as everyone would like to think. If you compare the quali laps between Lewis and Heikki, Heikki was always quicker or equal to Lewis in Q2. But Q3, Kovy always carried far too much fuel, and really dug himself a hole. So the speed is there, he just needs to get his act together in quali, and carry that speed into the race.

HK must have seen of the internal challenges of PDLR & GP to get the job in the 1st place. Not sure how he matches up to PDR but as PDR was faster than SV in the same machinery I suspect HK will have to improve or he's going to be an ex-McLaren driver by 2010.

Now that FI is in the game purchasing engines and chasis from VMM, and PDLR was not PDQ enough to warrent VJM to drop AS and GCF, HK has nothing to worry about unless he SNAFU's this year.

First of all... i hate initials. i though this topic was going to be on performance filters and all wheel drives.......

Pedro de la rosa was not Mclaren driver because of the whole spy/alonso issue and would probably not have played the Mclaren team game. But let it be known, he would have been a much better driver than Heikki, although probably not better than lewis.

Heikki is a good raw talent. But somehow had a tough time handling the MP '08, getting his head to drive consistently.. or probably was too afraid to ask for a lighter fuel load! anyway the question is, will Mclaren be able to make a car/chassis that both their drivers can do well with? Lewis and Heikki have very different ways of driving, like Kubica and heidfeld. But BMW sacrificed Robert's campaign to have a better all-round car; Mclaren didnt and they ended up with a WDC, while Kubica fell behind. In my opinion, Mclaren shouldn't sacrifice Lewis' campaign for Heikki's. They'd be better off having a driver that complements Lewis and teaching him (lewis) not to make make silly mistakes. If Heikki can find his way around this, then he's worth Mclaren putting some effort on him... otherwise his seat will be up for grabs.

Concerning Pedro De La Rosa my personal opinion was that McLaren should have made him a driver because he had some spectacular drives a few years ago while subing. Another great talent subjected to being just a 'tester' but thats life.

And what about Gary Paffett? He's been at McLaren longer than Hamilton has. That just goes to show that there's too much talent going to waste thanks to the lack of teams on the grid (and mainly thanks to Ebenezer Ecclestone).
