Looks like McLaren is set to appeal the stewards' decision about the fuel issue in Brazil.
Chances?

Honestly I think they have much less chance than Ferrari would have if situation is reversed.

That being said, from what I've read having colder fuel gives you something like 10hp extra. I don't think LH would do any better if BMW and Williams were 10hp weaker, and their performance haven't had any influence on FA... so I'd still have Kimi for champion. But that's only me.

Then again, I'd also have McLaren as constructor champion as it was not proved that any of Ferrari's technology was used in McLaren's car.

Now... as it is, if McLaren was punished for spying (which is basically cheating), then BMW and Williams should be punished for cheating as well. It should not be important if they really gained any advantage out of that cheating, as it was not important that McLaren hasn't got any Ferrari technology in their car.

If Mclaren can prove the fuel thing gave them an advantage though what will happen? If they really want to win the championship this way I'm not impressed. And if they take this away from Kimi when he totally deserves it I will be disgusted.

What does everyone think - should the teams be punished for this?

Are they allowed to appeal? I was listening to sports radio last night and they said that McLaren couldn't appeal because it wasn't their cars under investgation?

Isn't it obvious why Mcleran, RD & LH losses both the championship.

They are not really racing, they are finding loop hole in the system to win. If they had put all their effort in the race itself, they might have won something.

See how Ferrari turn around from June. They are almost out of both the championships hunt. They work hard, and they turn it around a 180.

This is what the motor sport fans want to see, not fighting in court.

LH has had it all to win, but rookie is still a rookie, that never changes. He underestimated his rivals, and the most he overestimated himself. He could not handle the pressure, and fumble, and press the wrong button to shut down his car for the most vital part of the race.. rookie, no experience. Losing the title, he has only himself to blame, nobody else, and nothing else, not the gearbox. F1 is not just driving skill, but many other things come together.

Who knows? We started this season with one set of regulations, and we've finished it with a totally different set of regulations, so anything could happen.

Got it in one. F1 was boring. F1 is now too exciting - but not in a good way. Battles should be fought on the track, not in court.

Whilst we're talking about courts, has anyone got any news on Ferrari's civil action against McLaren?

I hope they don't appeal, not because the others gained an unfair advantage but the image of the sport will become more like a soap opera. It's been a great post-Schu season, and its been lost amidst all the team bickering and FIA nonsense.

Come on!!, fairs fair, you can't pick and choose who gets penalties when rules are broken, it doesn't matter if it's Ferrari or McLaren, BMW and Williams have, knowingly or not gained an advantage by breaking the rules. They must be penalized!!!, God imagine if McLaren had done it, Imagine the uproar from Ferrari, equally image the quick and ruthless penalties the FIA ( Ferrari Butt Monkeys) would inflict.

I'm no Lewis fan, I'm ecstatic Kimi won, I've won money on him, BUT rules are rules and you can't let teams off simply because it'd inconvenience Ferrari.

Alonso is saying:

"If he wins the title because of this it wouldn't be fair. I'd be embarrassed for this sport," at least we know he has some limits to what he'll do himself.

I agree an unfair advantage, but sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture. It cannot become like the Premier League where you have court cases still going on and the new season is on the horizon. Time for McLaren to move on and put all their energy into that 2008 car. Show at least unlike Ferrari, they deserve some respect.

The problem with F1 IS the bigger picture!!!, that bigger picture has always been there, It's called Red Sky at night, Ferrari Delight.

Worst than Mclaren bring the sport into disrepute is the idea of a whole sport being weighted in favour of one team, You might as well chuck away the word sport. Sport is a fair competition between opposing units, even the tiffosi have to admit that Formula 1 is and always has been an overly Ferrari friendly environment.
I'm veering away from the point anyway, Yes Ferrari in a similar situation would protest and would have won by now but the point is is that this IS a sport, Not a political organization, no matter what the reality is. If someone breaks the rules, no matter who it is or what the consequences, penalties MUST be given.

As for Alonso saying all that, well he's bound too, he's acted like a petulant child all season, this is him chucking the last toy out the pram.

I think his opinion will be shared by alot of people, I don't think he'd want to win under these circumstances either - it's a reasonable view if you ask me (not that you are :) ) I don't think even Lewis would want that.

Well if we're going down that route...

Hamilton (and Button and Sato) should have been punished in some respect for breaking Article 25.3 of the F1 regulations over the use of wet weather tyres in the practice sessions this weekend.

And let's assume that what Todt says is correct and Hamilton did slightly impede Raikkonen on his hot lap, Hamilton should also have been punished for this.

Yes, I think the FIA is sligtly biased, however there are a myriad of 'punishments' they could have handed out that would have benefitted Ferrari but they didn't. I really don't believe it is as weighted as many people seem to believe it is.

Half the problem is that wherever there are bucket loads of money, there will be politics, and where there is politics, there is a lot of malarkey....

Hamilton Button and Davidson were punished for there tire infringements, Hamilton was fines $15 thousand, presumably Button and Davidson were as well, not much of a punishment but fair, Penalties don't necessarily mean disqualification!, they can mean anything from that to time or cash penalties. There’s lots of penalties handed out each year that are so trivial we don't even hear about them.

As for me being unreasonably, maybe, maybe, all a matter of opinion, we should start a forum,,,,, DOH!!!!!
